Reading Peter Benchley’s Jaws for the first time in 35 years or so, and the clear differences between film and book are the likeable characters. Hooper is a cock jock, Ellen a socialite bitch with rape fantasies, and Brody a homophobe. You almost end up cheering for the shark.

I watched this in 2005 and I watched it now before listening to Neil & John talk about it. Possibly the first dystopian sitcom of the 21st century until Mrs Brown’s Boys came along.

Something to admire rather than actually like, and clearly prescient if the whole platformed influencer vogue that’s come to dominate since. Uncomfortable rather than funny, but still in the sitcom tradition of characters trapped in their own self-made dystopias.
