RIP Ray Brooks, who for many like me was one of the voices of their childhood. Loved him in Big Deal with Sharon Duce too.

So sorry to hear this Neil. Remember she had a good and happy life for many years thanks to you and Sue x

Agreed. I guess being played by Tom Hanks nudges him ahead of Ryan Gosling’s Neil Armstrong for me.

Arguably a greater hero than any astronaut to set foot on the moon.

Very bold of the new Alien: Earth series to suggest the next hundred years continue the monopolisation of culture, art, music, and pretty much everything else by a select number of colossal corporation oligarchs. Especially as one of those potential corporations is Disney, streamer of Alien: Earth.

Reminded me how in a post-Hillsborough era of sanitised football attendances, those same hooligans still require a means to channel their pent-up knuckle-headed aggression. Lots of sound and fury signifying nothing more than feral knee-jerk reaction, all for likes & shares. Andrew Tate’s Barmy Army.

So it’s not a β€œpledge” which only gets charged if the target is reached, like Kickstarter?

How does GoFundMe work?
Does Jason receive the raised sum irrespective of whether the target is achieved?

For anyone not willing to go along the narrative of β€œrape and sexual assault is a symptom of uncontrolled immigration” which also covers not being able to see your doctor and not being able to get on the housing list.

I remember liking the James Whale radio show back in those early days of ITV night time. It was at times anarchic and groundbreaking. So I’d like to extend my sympathies to his family on his passing. Except of course older me now only sees he was a racist and reactionary cunt, so may he burn in hell

Reading Peter Benchley’s Jaws for the first time in 35 years or so, and the clear differences between film and book are the likeable characters. Hooper is a cock jock, Ellen a socialite bitch with rape fantasies, and Brody a homophobe. You almost end up cheering for the shark.

I watched this in 2005 and I watched it now before listening to Neil & John talk about it. Possibly the first dystopian sitcom of the 21st century until Mrs Brown’s Boys came along.

Something to admire rather than actually like, and clearly prescient if the whole platformed influencer vogue that’s come to dominate since. Uncomfortable rather than funny, but still in the sitcom tradition of characters trapped in their own self-made dystopias.

The Sun and the Times are both right-wing organs owned by an Australian who has long since used mass media to divide and polarise, all to drive up sales. @adamjschwarz.bsky.social is absolutely right.

How much of a crew do you need for one scene? A two-hander between stars doing it without fees, written by a showrunner wanting to draw a line under things until somebody else takes up the reins. Why not? Surely better than all this cloak and dagger bullshit since the end of May. BP & DT only.

When? Children in Need 2025
Where? Probably Bad Wolf Studios before they took the set down
What? A minisode featuring 14 and 16(?)
Why? β€œTHAT’S ALL FOLKS!!!”

Christmas is 21 weeks today

147 days

3,528 hours

Approximately 211,680 minutes

And my local eatery is already taking Christmas Day bookings at Β£62.99 a head.

By September the staff will be wearing Christmas sweaters, and the place decked out for Halloween too.

It’s only August tomorrow.

The War Game is getting a 40th anniversary showing on BBC Four, having been banned in 1966 for its depiction of β€˜violence and suffering’ following a putative nuclear attack. The β€˜performances’ are a little quaint now, but the visuals and message have lost none of their power.

I think this will just be ignored when - if- the show ever returns, swept under the same carpet as McGann being half-human. I guess Billie didn’t want to disappoint an old friend and employer, but this was a desperate final attempt to keep the show in the public eye as it faced cancellation.
