Physiological and behavioural responses of aquatic organisms to microplastics and experimental warming
Microplastics are an emerging contaminant of concern because of their potential to cause harm to aquatic biota, such as reproduction, growth, and survโฆ
New study, where we experimentally tested the independent & combined impacts of microplastics & different temperature regimes on aquatic invertebrates, under the leadership of PhD Danielle Marchant, with @drdanperkins.bsky.social & @qmulrivercomms.bsky.social

Using 21 years of fish data from Brazilโs Upper Paranรก River Floodplain, we show that the biomass of large native fish has declined, while large non-native species are thriving โ leading to a >50% drop in fishery value.
Great team and outstanding leadership by Dieison Moi!

Check out this amazing dataset! Size spectra are key for understanding community-level impacts of environmental change. Fragmented literature + nuances in the analyses have hindered direct comparisons within / across ecosystem types. This standardized, open-source dataset enables those comparisons ๐
