36 arrests at National Aerospace Summit. Organisers claim “major victory”.

On 08/10/2025, more than 100 peace activists descended on Te Pae Convention Centre to blockade and disrupt the National Aerospace Summit for it's ties to the United States Military and international weapons companies. The protest, organised publicly online by Peace Action Ōtautahi, was extremely successful in challenging the narrative around what the aerospace industry really is, the group states.

Around 6.30am, groups of activists chained themselves and blockaded various entrances to the building. Of these activists, 22 were arrested, and three minors were detained and released, most at the main entrance.

Later in the day, Police arrested 14 more activists for obstructing Police vehicles leaving the summit with previously-arrested activists inside, as well as for wilful trespass, and breach of bail conditions. Three protesters were held overnight, and released around 11.30am on 09/10/25.

We celebrate the disruption of the summit and labels the protest as a major victory.

"We set out to expose the aerospace industry as what it really is, a front for developing and launching foreign military technology. And we did exactly that," states a spokesperson for the group. "It's clear from the response that these links aren't common knowledge, but thanks to these brave activists who were willing to put their bodies on the line, our legitimate concerns have entered the public conversation."

The summit will be held again in Christchurch next year.

The spokesperson remarks: "The number of people who are now aware of what aerospace really means, and how New Zealand is complicit in war crimes around the globe, has just been exponentially increased. I'd expect the number of people willing to take direct action against this summit next year to be magnitudes larger."

Our aerospace summit blockade was an enormous success despite police aggression. Ngā mihi maioha to our brave peace activists! 🔥

Nothing happened for a year. Then in August 2025 a shopper browsing through a pile of op shop goods made a most surprising discovery. The trove of secret documents from the Portsmouth meetings had been accidentally donated to a Hutt Valley Salvation Army store.

Unreal that a handful of greedy assholes hellbent on destroying Aotearoa’s humanitarian legacy are being enabled to do so by all our parliamentary processes. If an overhaul wasn’t already clearly needed, it surely is now

Sometimes, the right book falls in your lap at the right time. @erikkennedy.com’s Sick Power Trip is that book. Need something beautifully realistic and tenderly addressing the state of the world? This’ll be your medicine too.

Stop sign on a street is the background. Text reads: “The Aerospace Summit is being sold to us as “innovation” and “opportunity”. In reality, it is a meeting ground from weapons manufacturers, war profiteers, and government officials who see the sky about as a place of wonder, but as the next battlefield.
This is not harmless “space exploration”. It is about militarising the skies, monopolising space, and using technology to expand surveillance and control. When corporations and states claim ownership of space, they do it for power and profit — not for people.
We cannot ignore how deeply tied this industry is to war crimes and occupation.”

A bombed image of Rafah is the background to text that reads: “This summit is dangerous for our city and for our world. It normalises the idea that war and exploitation are “progress”. It invites those who profit from bloodshed into our communities. And it tells our young people that the future lies in building weapons instead of building peace. We don’t need a summit of arms dealers and war profiteers. We need futures of justice, solidarity, and compassion.”

The Aerospace Summit is back. Why is this conference of “innovation” so concerning for peace activists?

NZ journalists could easily hound Peters for this. Instead they harassed Doyle. And 2/3s of the coverage I've seen of Doyle resigning frames the resignation up as being another scandal for the Greens

NZ media is a direct platform for abuse against diversity - the evidence is clear

SWers have been speaking to the harms of “save the children” censorship forever, even more so since FOSTA-SESTA. It materially ruins people’s livelihoods with little pushback.
Maybe if we took lead from those at the front line of this fight, we’d be looking at a different battle altogether.

She doesn’t want to ‘gossip’ when it turns into fact-sharing about her behaviour. She’s happy to when it’s defamatory about you, though.

What a wholly dismissive and insecure response on her part!

That said, I’m sorry you have to contend w rising hatred at the same time you’re stepping into a stronger authentic self. The pain of accepting yourself in a society that prefers you dead > being yourself is excruciating.
No matter how high the tide turns, we’ll always be here. You’re not alone ❤️

This is always the point that gets side stepped in these bullshit “both sides” pieces. The effect of anti-trans campaigning is heightened violence in a direct attempt to force detransition/staying closeted.
Pretending these arguments serve any other purpose is complicity in transphobic violence.

I know the City Mission off Hereford in town had a huge stack of art history magazines a few months back, and I remember seeing a decent few piles of ~pre 80s Nat Geos. Burnside op shops also had a surprising amount.
Good luck!

By neglect or design, depending on how generous you're feeling. We won't get far by accepting it as immutable, though - we could have a much more rigorous media environment with some obvious changes.

I saw that, too. It's accelerating the already steep decline into sub-feudal living standards for anyone outside of the corporate nepo pool. Not like accessible drinking water is an essential human right or anything, right?

No singular party should be cornering this much of the public's news diet. The right wing rot in MSM *is* much worse than it used to be, and it's not "just for clicks" or because of a "lack of resources".
It's an intentional decision to poison the well of public comprehension. #nzpol

Can we PLEASE stop measuring viability by the "economic benefits" boosted by corporate cucks? They mean trickle-up profits, which is just theft of public goods in a swish marketing jacket.
They want to sign a climate death warrant all for a product that, at best, is a shitty inconvenience.

No surprise it's the same evil conglomerates looking to expand their empire here, despite the dangers to our rural whānau and Papatūānuku. They know how primed NZ gvt is to roll over for corporate profits; we know how these data centres destroy quality of life for working class people.
