It was an import from Türkiye that was a 10% tariff on a custom TV stand a guy on Etsy made for me. It's not a huge number, but it was unexpected because who knows what the tariffs actually are on any given day. I also didn't realize that Fedex pays it and then just sends you a bill. Good to know!

One of my uncles has done a deep dive into genealogy and traced our branch (which is presumably the same at some point) back to one of the original colonies and then even farther back. He thinks the surname was originally French but then Anglicized as the original brothers? passed through England.

Superman was a great summer movie. The actors were clearly having fun, the effects (mostly) didn't take me out of the experience, and it was nice to see a movie make such a strong case for what unites us as humans, even so-called "aliens."

Went to my first Bradley County TN Democrats meetup tonight now that I live here and there were about 40-50 people, which was the most they've had in a long time, maybe even ever.
