Vinyl Nuggets

Picked up this much-loved album by the Penguin Cafe Orchestra at the car boot. This is the reissue, lovingly remastered in a perfect facsimile of the original sleeve. And then pressed in the shittiest shade of brown in the entire spectrum. Well done !

Top tip. Buy any classical record with Jacqueline du Pre's name on it. This £1 boot buy goes for £39 on Cogs. 1965 early stereo copy.

Saw a hedgehog slurping out of ours yesterday evening. Who knew an old saucepan could provide such entertainment ?

Paid £1 for a NM copy in a Scarborough charity shop. One of my few career highlights...

Busy ironing the black inners for the White Album I picked up yesterday. One way to tell if you have an early mono copy is to feel the rough texture of the paper INSIDE the inner sleeve. Nobody cared about scratches in 1968...

Amazing chazza find today. A UK mono 1st press (-1) of the White Album (top loader version). Includes original black inners + poster. Package also includes a French 1st press too. Both in nice VG/VG+ condition. Luckily I have the 4 pics to complete it.
All this for £15. Can hardly believe my luck.

Something Else by the Kinks. Looks like an original '67 issue on Pye. Cover in good nick. Only £15 at Age UK...a true classic....surely the bargain of the year ?
Or maybe not.

A bundle of vintage classical albums : Shostakovich, Mahler & Khachaturian.

Collecting classical vinyl can be a minefield but the rule of thumb is to look for early (50s/60s) stereo pressings on quality labels.
£1 each for this lot; the two Shostakovich at the bottom average £20 each.
As is often the case with classical records, one careful owner = condition is immaculate.

This sinister-looking image appeared at the bottom right of my phone screen recently. Scanned it, can't click on it & Google is silent on the subject.
Anybody know what it is ?

Jazz CDs by the likes of Art Blakey, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Sergio Mendes, Donald Byrd, John Coltrane.

Some nice jazz finds on CD. Still plenty of bargains to hoover up out there.

Never seen this CD before in a charity shop - Kevin Coyne : Marjory Razorblade (1973)

For years, whenever I looked at Superman's logo, all I saw was a series of meaningless yellow shapes on a red background.
I assumed this was an alien language and meant something on the planet Krypton. When I finally saw the letter S, I was completely astonished

Boot sale grail. Reissue NM £5.
The white parts of the (non-laminated) sleeve were plastered with grubby fingermarks. Came off very easily with Flash Magic Eraser - imo much more effective than a conventional eraser for cleaning covers.

Flogged some LPs & with £70 burning a hole in my pocket, I decided to see how many albums I could buy on Discogs. I managed 12 (post-free) including jazz, ambient,exotica & electronica.
All vinyl NM/VG+
At just over a fiver each, these are nearly car boot prices - but without the 6am start.

Just picked up a bundle of albums to discover somebody has run amok with their Dymo label maker. Even lighter fluid doesn't get these off without damage.......

Guy at the boot wanted 50p each for these original 60s blues albums. Almost felt too guilty to pay it but the feeling wore off. The vinyl was indescribably filthy but cleaned up nicely.

1975 album by Magpie presenter Mick Robertson. The music is totally forgettable but the title lingers in the memory....

Arrgh, the clown from the test card. Trigger warning next time please....
