An abstract pen plot of stacked overlapping geometric shapes with smooth curves. The colors are a variety of blue denim and yellow gold shades created from cross hatch pen strokes of only cyan, yellow, and magenta.

More work on editing and selection: Lasso tool, multi-path/point selection; better UX (staying out of the user's way)

Worked on interaction today, and added a modifier button for complex selection.

Also, I noticed flickering when deselecting vertices, which means too many redraws, so there's now update coalescing. I'm still in debug (CoreGraphics) drawing mode, but it's noticeably faster now.

A watercolor evoking filter on an image of a plank walkway built in a geometric pattern, crossing over a water feature with a grassy garden knoll off to the right. In the background, multistory residential apartments and shops can be seen.

An image of a MacBook, iPad and iPhone against the background of a coffee shop. At the top of the screen is the SoloTime app icon (a white clock face on a light blue background) and the words "For freelancers, contractors and small businesses". The app is running on all 3 devices - on the Mac it's showing the list if invoices and their respective status', on the iPad it shows the detail of an invoice along with a preview of it and on the iPhone it shows the lists of clients and projects.

I built a music app for my mom. She’s over 70. The Liquid Glass design aesthetic overwhelms her. iOS’s Assistive Access mode is better, but it comes with heavy limitations. Preserving digital autonomy in old age is important. Now she can listen to music independently again.

Developing with an AI agent brings the same problems as handwritten code, so the same mitigation practices apply: code smells, DRY vs. WET, constant refactoring, loose coupling, etc.

I keep pointing the coding agent to my 'guiding principles' document, which summarizes best practices.

Project thread: I'm using Claude to develop a sky simulator. I can finally get the ideas out of my head almost as fast as they come, and I've been a graphics developer for over 25 years.

Its a mixture of simulation and empirical models. The data is accurate, but I'm focusing on the aesthetics.

Stuff I learned from dad: For a few inches snow, it's cheaper and easier to drive back and forth over the snow than to call the snow removal service.
