China is expanding its state-run propaganda with 16 new Tibetan-language radio programmes This World Radio Day, 13 February 2026, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) warns that China’s state-owned broadcaster China National Radio (CNR) has rapidly expanded its Tibetan-language programming, pushing government propaganda deeper into Tibetan communities. RSF is outraged that the regime’s narrative is moving to fill the void left by the suspension of Tibetan-language services at the international broadcasters Radio Free Asia (RFA) and Voice of America (VOA). RSF urges the US Agency for Global Media (USAGM), which oversees RFA and VOA, to restore this essential programming, and calls on the international community to support independent Tibetan media outlets.

“Without RFA and VOA, there is currently almost no counter‑voice capable of challenging the Chinese regime's propaganda in Tibet, which glorifies the Communist Party, promotes “ethnic unity,” and attributes any dissent to “hostile external forces.”

USA: New funding for USAGM signals sustained bipartisan support for its crucial international journalism Reporters Without Borders (RSF) welcomes the inclusion of funds for Voice of America, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, and the other public media outlets supported by the US Agency for Global Media (USAGM) in the 2026 appropriations bill signed by President Trump on February 3. The decision sends a strong, bipartisan message that USAGM outlets are vital sources of reliable news worldwide. This funding supports life-saving, critical news reporting in many closed countries where local journalists are attacked for trying to keep the public informed.

"Although the funding passed for USAGM is a roughly 25% cut from previous years, it still sends a strong message that Lake must end her efforts to erode USAGM and let the journalists do their jobs."
