I feel bad for the kids. They could really use the full attention of a parent right now.

His friend who was driving is here legally and has a wife and kids. He got away, but just barely. He wanted to go back and search for his friend but my husband (an attorney) went instead because, well, we are white American citizens.
This all just sucks so much. I feel sick.

ICE was arresting people at our local Home Depot store this morning and a guy who has done a lot of work for us over the last few years got taken while doing a supply run. He’s the hardest worker I’ve ever seen and just a super earnest guy. I’m so sad and angry. I hope we can find him.

Ballard Commons can sometimes function this way too, or at least it used to in the summer when my kids were little and the water was on.

Exactly. The Angle Lake station is next to a gas station and a federal prison. That's kinda it. It's not walkable for anyone except maybe the TODs that are developing around it (which I fully support, but wish wasn't on a major highway). Star Lake is the same. These are park&ride stations.

Yeah. I lived in Ballard for 20 years. The suburbs are not like urban villages AND when you build a transit system that basically parallels the freeway, you wouldn't be hitting them anyway even if they did exist.

Yeah, I feel like it's becoming a mainstream thing to do, but who can really afford the $4k? It's all about "I'm so blessed to have not been born in this terrible place" lessons I'm sure for the more wealthy kids. I hate how everything is an indoctrination. If you want to do service, do service.

I live like 5 minutes from the Angle Lake Station even around here its not obvious where that is. It's a weird little lake off of 99. Star Lake is a similar issue. Why not just call them the S 200th St & S 272nd St stations? It would be less confusing to locals at least.

Mmhmm. And HXP charges like $4k for a 3 week mission trip that's basically a giant church devotional sprinkled in with a few hours of service a day.

Well, this specific one is a new one for me too. I'm thinking of how so many Mormon-belt high schoolers now seem to go on paid "mission trips" for a couple weeks and it's basically like EFY while "building" a school or something. I'm sure it's a good experience, but it's also kind of poverty porn.

I have very strong feelings about this new grift of “mission trips” going on right now. It’s giving major ick.
