Well you (and Prez Trump) appear to have a pipe dream that the U/States can revert to being the manufacturing powerhouse of the pre-WW2 era, when at least a 1/3 of the workforce manufactured items that cld dominate global markets. Unfort the rest of us struggle to believe that - but there you go..
27.03.2025 22:36 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Ha unfort its quite a big factor. Maybe stick to the accounting. Im not sure the 93% of the US workforce will want to go into your factories. But cest la vie..
27.03.2025 22:23 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Why? You think US manufacturing can undercut China, Vietnam, India, S Korea etc on unit labour cost? Ok Rhys.
27.03.2025 22:10 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Yeah go the US electorate in their full employment labour market, where the average wage is almost $67,000 and tell them their future is in making industrial goods for low factory wages, where only 7% currently make anything. Ok Rhys. ๐ซ
27.03.2025 21:59 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Its actually smaller than 1%. And no trade imbalance is 'permanent'. You really need to read beyond GOP talking points.
27.03.2025 07:19 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0In fact its (EU) trade surplus (goods and services) with the US is quite modest, less than 1% of gdp. Several EU countries, such as Spain, actually run a goods deficit with the United States.

24.03.2025 12:38 โ ๐ 106 ๐ 32 ๐ฌ 8 ๐ 6I still struggle to see how pharma and med tech plants (existing ones) shift to the US. For me, a more likely outcome is new capacity goes to the US, and is trumpeted by the firms when announced. But with mid-terms next year I suspect a lot of MNCs will just tread water for a while
23.03.2025 17:36 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0True. It may also- positively- bring more balance to the mix between the indigenous and the FDI sector which has been arguably out of whack for while now

10.03.2025 18:46 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Maybe stick to the economics Edgar! Your political antenna are less sharp. Trump campaigned in 2016 and 2024 on the return of manufacturing jobs to the United states. I dont even recall him once talking about services. I happen to think hes wrong, but cest la vie
05.03.2025 22:14 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Yes, but this is political, not economic. Trump fetishes manufacturing as you should know. Hence the emphasis on goods/merchandise numbers. Hes interested in US jobs. Talking about services-based royalty payments is unlikely to suddenly shift his view or Navarro etc
05.03.2025 22:06 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Doubt the White House will be interested in the off-setting services numbers- they love goods, manufacturing and 'production' and the jobs associated with same.
