The Original "gaming crash" was limited to US-produced consoles. Arcades still boomed globally, and the European scene was incredibly healthy between the Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum. So calling for a "Crash" along the 80's US scene seems misguided at best.

The "Online Revenge" system was amazing. Making real players your nemesis as you played online led to some real sweaty games, even if you weren't in 1st place. Surprised it hasn't been attempted since Team Fortress 2 had fun with that concept too.

Replaying the Flatout series makes me yearn for the days of "Asshole physics", where you just made a mess out of the environment and it stayed that way. Bananza scratches that itch a bit. But it's no Flatout or Red Faction Guerrilla in terms of destruction.
