To double-down on Virginia, I'd argue they have a worse resume than at least three teams in the American (Memphis, Tulane, USF). And maybe even North Texas (the shared opponent of WSU certainly makes that argument)

Will it be a terrible look if 9-4 Duke wins the league? Yes. Is it now clear to me that the CFP will do backflips to keep the ACC champ in the CFP over two G5 schools? Absolutely.

I cannot remember if it was @joeovies.bsky.social or Giglio who have always said the CFP rankings early on are just about ensuring the narrative the CFP wants is in place before the final rankings. Nowhere is that more obvious than UVA still being ranked - ensuring the ACC saves face regardless
