You would expect an individual like Ira to be opposed to the cell phone, to perhaps be an advocate for sitting quietly with one self. I wonder if perhaps it is a symptom of hustle culture or maybe something more banal. It is still unbecoming. 4/6

I found this ridiculous, if someone is especially slow talking I might put a piece of media on 1.25 or 1.1 times speed at most? Funny enough, he also mentioned rather frequently that he found the host’s stance that “being off off his phone on the subway was beneficial” to be misguided. 2/6

I saw this rather out of touch interview with Ira Glass the host of ‘This American Life’. He was on an episode of Uncut SubwayTakes with Kareem. I believe his take was something to the effect of: you should be trying to listen to stuff, like podcasts and videos, at 1.7 or 2x speed. 1/6

Real! This has been my cycle this year: Come up with a new mechanic, really love it, immediately realize that it’s not suited for the pace of ttrpgs, add it to a tabletop game project that isn’t role playing related, not finish said project, rinse and repeat haha

Commander bracket changes are whack btw, idk bout yall but game shouldn’t be shorter than 8 turns, on the fast end. Fastest decks I’ve felt satisfied playing against? 5 turns tops.

Definitely. Graphic and layout design are awesome crafts themselves, it’s the fact that both must be hand in hand in the eyes of the reader, and mesh seamlessly with the text, which contains the meat of the product, that creates an interesting standard. The product is both…. 1/2

Often, when I’m making a rules document for play at my own table, formatting it like a “real game” is more liable to eat up time while folks read the whole thing, when it is instead best conveyed with simple highlighting or italics over the text, hiding the quicker reference within the larger one

The weird part to me is you have people commenting like the other dude below this post, trying to profess the gospel of layout and design while still leaning on the caveat that “sometimes it makes clarity worse, actually”. Wonder why the community wants it so bad then hmmmmm lol

90% of the stuff I’ve made sits at that point where it needs an editor, lol. Definitely a necessary element of a ttrpg “product”, people expect their cake (art and layout) along with eating it too (brilliant and original prose and rules) haha

Hindsight also lets me know that 350-ish less cards will more cleanly fit into a two-row card box, so that’s a change worth making too lol. Overall I’m proud of how the format turned out, but it could use some tuning up and a fresh pass. Finishing the rules is a good motivator to play it, too! 3/3
