At risk of re-litigating a previous argument though, I find it a lot easier to see Burnham blocked if Rayner is running. There are groups that prefer her as leader and others who would see her as more beatable so would prefer her on the ballot

You currently literally can’t bet on Rayner on skybet (unlike all these people!) so I don’t think the point that she should be considered among the favourites still is β€˜standard’ (but imv is correct)

Ordinary landlords also don’t get fined for this! In Southwark they get warning and and no consequence as long as they get the license within 21 days.

My main question is why stop at 2p?

Why not 5p, or the full 8p?

Ah - because 3p on income tax is not β€œacross the board”.
Someone earning Β£50k pays Β£1140 more a year (Β£95 a month)
Β£30k earner pays Β£540 a year (Β£45 a month)
Β£20k earner pays Β£240 a year (Β£20 a month)
Someone earning Β£10k a year would pay Β£0. ZERO extra. No need to cut back.

That says they pay more tax - not income tax!!!

Right at the start of that piece it talks about how this comes from taxes OTHER than income tax (eg council tax and VAT) which is exactly why income tax is the most progressive tax to raise.

Guess we should abolish all tax then right? That’s the left-wing thing to do?

(This has obviously not been proven. Someone on Β£15k a year pays 4% of their income in income tax while someone on Β£95k pays 27%)

.. the Bank of England is more able to cut interest rates and inflation won’t be as high - which will have more impact on lower earners

…mate this was after literally 20 minutes, amazingly not everyone spends all their time on Bluesky? (I was going to the gym because I’m on half term but I might also have been doing… my job?)

You asked β€œwhat increased spending”, I answered. Higher earners might have to cut back, on the other hand..

β€˜Spending power’ will go down after a 3p rise in income tax, by a bit less than Jeremy Hunt made it go up by cutting NI by 4p. It then also goes up for the people benefiting from the increased spending (reversing austerity) the tax rise pays for

Income tax (that’s in the post above the one you quoted…) so you pay more the more income you have

First up - yes, Zelensky is no friend of Ukraine's working class in the sense that his government pursues right-wing, neoliberal, anti-worker economic policies.

Unlike Zarah Sultana, we actually know something about this...

I think it might especially be useful for the govt to have citizens’ juries followed by referenda on age limits for smartphones/social media (or regulating algorithm-driven feeds for everyone) so the debate could serve the purpose of the media grid and allow them to do some actual governing

Reform’s Sarah Pochin forced to apologise after claiming adverts 'full of black people' drive her 'mad’ | LBC The Runcorn and Helsby MP was responding to a viewer live on air who complained about the demographics of advertising.

Nothing on the BBC Radio news this morning. Nothing I could find on their website. This is an MP from the party whose lead in the opinion polls normally ensures them wall-to-wall coverage. She spouts racist nonsense for which even she feels obliged to apologise. What on earth are they playing at?

Labour *did* try the whole β€˜devalue from day one’ thing in 1974, and it didn’t go well! Somehow always forgotten when 1964 is discussed

Housing prices being high - β€œuntenably high” - suggests that demand is in fact very high (even if it’s slightly lower than before interest rates fell). If it wasn’t, the lack of supply wouldn’t be a problem!
