Make copies, preserve them, create a parallel black list, hide this list.
Deleting research from databases or from being found renders knowledge as good as non-existent.

Black Archives, Not Archives of Blackness: On Laura Helton’s β€œScattered and Fugitive Things” | Los Angeles Review of Books Dorothy Berry reviews Laura Helton’s β€œScattered and Fugitive Things: How Black Collectors Created Archives and Remade History.”

I love libraries and archives and museums. To read about the history of work to maintain libraries and share histories I suggest you skip my piece and just go buy this book (or! request it at your local library!) but if you need to be convinced, here:

It's #dpc #digitalpreservation #ff Follow Friday. This week a simple reflection. Data has never mattered more, and never more fragile. #DPC and the #digipres community have expertise and contacts that will help with that. Spread the word and save the bits.

That sounds like simultaneously a lot - because it will take such a load off and be such a relief… _and_ not a lot at all because it will only help with a small part of the load you are currently carrying. Take care, and enjoy breathing.

Love my job. Love all the ethical questioning it swims in. Love that it is so embedded in society. Love that it is about public and common good. Love that its independence is a sign of a working democracy.

This post by a former NARA employee is good, outlining some of its powers and responsibilities.

I knew that NARA administered the Electoral College. There’s a lot of similarly important stuff.

It will *not be good* for the next Archivist of the United States to be a Trump stooge.

Slow-Cooked Irn Bru Ham (with Irn Bru Glaze) Irn Bru Ham uses a classic Scottish drink to slow cook a delicious ham, before adding a glaze to make an even tastier recipe! It's easy and so moreish.

It was this recipe. I think the glaze needed something, some ginger, maybe? Or maybe a stronger mustard. But lovely nevertheless.

RPG card for 'Overwhelmed Archivist. Creature - Human Wizard'. It includes an image of a middle aged, bearded white man in chunky futuristic armour, sitting at a desk lit by some sort of electrical / lava lamp things. A severed hand in a jar of liquid is on the desk. This is unusual in an archive and might be better in a museum collection. The Overwhelmed Archivist is quoted as saying "Bah! As if I had time to preserve everything", suggesting that he needs to spend more time on appraisal and less on accumulating random body parts.
