I knew what you meant. I was going for the humor.

But yes, if you need encouragement to focus on one thing, I think Esperanto is a good choice. ๐Ÿ˜„

I will say though, when he accidentally tweeted about Mark Esper, calling him Mark Esperanto, I dropped everything and made a video about that. I got quite a few views.

Then unconnected to the video, I got a paying student who started to learn Esperanto because he'd seen the tweet.

"I forgot Spanish"

I feel that way quite a bit: like I have forgotten more languages than I have learned.

But yeah, learn some more Esperanto!

Mi heredis kelkajn librojn antaลญ jaroj de Esperanto Press. Unu el ili estis malneta traduko de libro pri Robin Hood. La titolo estis io simila al "Robno Hud".

Esperanto doesn't want him!

I was doing Esperanto full time for a while.

[True story]

So many potential tangents. Was Interlingua designed? (Gode might disagree.) Was it meant to be sight readable or is that a byproduct? Is inter romance a misleading term?

It will still be what it is regardless of what we call it, so maybe these are just quibbles.

I would encourage them to check out the revived Occidental community. They seem a little more hip and grounded than the Interlinguans, but, of course, your mileage may vary.

I took a stab at learning Interslavic but hit too many roadblocks.

You probably know that Interlingua isn't specifically "inter-romance". English (and secondarily, Russian and German) are source languages for Interlingua. It's also more tightly codified than Interslavic.

This isn't really my thing, but if someone were interested in such things, I would...

My money is that she's Russian - based on the postcard she posted.

P.S. Kio estas "eko"? ฤˆu via tradukilo sugestis tion?

I learned Esperanto 30 years ago and never looked back.

Nerd-ass languages FTW!

Just be aware that sometimes but subtitles are wrong. At one point Marco (Shatner) says: mi volas havi bebon.

Subtitles say: the right way

Not a very good translation.

Finlay - in case that wasn't clear - it's because Esperanto requires that all nouns (like coffee) end in the letter O.

By coincidence - look at my profile picture.
Haha. I didn't think of that.

Kial ne?

Imagine if you'd stuck with it. You'd be a fluent speaker now.

You and "Captain" Rimmer have something in common.

15.02.2026 10:46 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Oh my - Wait till you find out about "Mi longe penis" and how to say "crank shaft" in Esperanto.

Now you're just trolling.

When she spoke German, however, I got flashbacks to my pediatrician, who spoke English with a specific German accent, and I would sometimes get this uncomfortable feeling in the pit of my stomach that is hard to put into words - perhaps memories of being vulnerable and poked in unwelcome places.

This reminds me of a few things. One is a girl I had something of a crush on back in the day. I forgot where she grew up, but she spoke English with a native accent, and she also spoke fluent German (as her mother was German.)

But nobody knew who Celine Dion was because Normando pronounced it in French. Hahaha.
I vaguely remember a Bankedo.
And that's it.
Sylvain was kind of a central figure in my early Esperanto years, which is why he stands out in memory.

I gave a presentation on the Hammered Dulcimer.
I made a few videos and interviews with people. I remember those somewhat.
We ate our meals at the restaurant next door. There was an incident when Normando was explaining that it was owned by Celine Dion (if I understood correctly) but nobody knew...

I remember a child calling out from the men's room in French that he needed his mother's assistance with the paperwork. Poor guy was getting really frustrated because his mom was out of earshot.
Vague recollection of anticipating your presentation - and the word "movimento."

Now I'm suddenly wondering what details I can remember.
I remember nothing of our hotel room.
I remember pulling into the venue from off the road. I might even remember the name of the place - Rodway Inn, I think.
The francophones called it "Roadway" Inn.

Funny you should ask. L.L. Zamenhof, the author of Esperanto, also made the following proverb that seems fitting:

- Ne kotas besto en sia nesto

12.02.2026 01:17 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 2    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I wondered if you remembered it. Given how much of our lives we forget, I would have been more surprised if you remembered. Do you at least remember Silvain?

12.02.2026 00:04 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Well what kind of language?
Where did it come from?
