when I said this administration wasn't philosophically prepared to defend its actions, I never thought it would be so literally true.

Valentines is coincidentally the anniversary of the time my dad had a medical event behind the wheel, passed out and hit a tree head-on at 70mph, and survived because the previous week he had traded in his 14yo car for something safer. Happy automobile safety day to all who celebrate (me and my mom)

Under Alien Skies: A Sightseer's Guide to the Universe 14 black-and-white illustrations; 8 page full-color insert

I'm reading UNDER ALIEN SKIES by @philplait.bsky.social and while I highly rec it to anyone interested in space, it would be INVALUABLE if you're writing scifi & want to know, for ex, what someone would see in the night sky on Mars/whether you could see Mars' moons from the equator

I appreciate your presence (and rabbit pics!) so much. I lurk more often than not on social media these days, but I'm going to try and be more vocal (amidst my burnout and intersecting work and climate traumas). So thank you for being here and sharing. Will try to get myself to share.

one cool thing about being a millennial is that I got to do my embarrassing public meltdowns on AIM and Xanga and now they're just gone forever. poor gen z kids haunted forever by a bad tiktok. or like, boomers bickle-posting under local news. there should be a kind of bankruptcy for your reputation

I've realized my current relationship w/ the fires mirrors my current relationship w/ the country, which is, "Danger is closer but I'm currently safe but just for now & I shouldn't assume I'll be fine but right now I'm safe & others aren't so I shouldn't make it about me but I'm scared for us all."

Three tweets from Clean Air Club an hour ago

Is now a good time to mention that last month over 25 Los Angeles schools rejected our offers of completely free air purifiers for every single classroom on their campuses?

There's a widespread hostility to anyone offering solutions at the intersection of climate change, pandemics, and resource depletion. It was wild to get replies along the lines of "don't contact us ever again" when we were literally offering tens of thousands in free gear

When you try to solve a problem that most people are in denial about, you're going to encounter hostility and gaslighting instead of enthusiasm and solidarity

season 3 was so forgettable for me despite the immense nostalgia and glee at seeing the reunion for everyone. I kind of felt like I was watching it through just for the obligation to finish it.

Images: a lemur--gray with a white face and ears-- sitting up gnawing at a mango chunk clutched in its little furry hands. The orange fruit brings out their bright amber eyes.

There is no room for thought. It is Mango Time.

Comics and Klingons with Christopher Cantwell The Star Trek comics writer stops by the latest episode of The Pod Directive.

This reminds me that I listened to Christopher Cantwell on Star Trek Pod Directive recently and a lot of discussion was focused on Worf/klingon identity. It was everything I wanted more of. Also reminds me I need to check out his Defiant comic. www.startrek.com/news/comics-...

I know a lot of other disabled people are wondering what we can do to help the world be less of a dumpster fire

With limited energy, and often stuck at home with limited local community (or none at all)

So I'd like to talk a little about what I'm trying to do, and why I think it's important

Something missing in all these obituaries of Jimmy Carter is his book Palestine: Peace not Apartheid. He wrote it in 2006 and, sadly, it still holds up.

I like to say I respect despair as an emotion but not an analysis. As an analysis it assumes we know what can and can't happen, and the future is both uncertain and at least to some extent what we make of it. Plus why would I give them what they want, as premature surrender? Thanks Senator Schatz.

This was always my favorite thing about him (besides him being an engineer)

Being an actual humanitarian is aggressively at odds with being considered a โ€œgoodโ€ president. You need *at least* a pinch of ruthlessness and disregard for people for that.

Everybody doesnโ€™t have or want to have that

More to say on burnout and I'm probably going to boost it a few times because folks need to hear it:

Burnout is a form of brain damage. It happens when stress conditions persist until they damage our brains.

It's an injury that needs to heal, not a weakness that needs to be pushed through.
