They are nutters. Imagine how mad they're going to get after 3 years of Labour government. "BRITAIN ON THE BRINK ... STILL"

The UK is either portrayed as a worse threat than Russia, or an errant ex that must rejoin the EU, or both depending on the day of the week.

Because that's what they promised in their manifesto. And join would lose badly once the conditions - euro, Schengen, fOM - were put before the electorate. Labour know that. The UK doesn't want to join the EU. It wants Maastricht on goods. Thats it.

Because the price the EU will demand for "doing something about it" - even a customs arrangement - is free movement.

And we don't want that and will never agree to it again. Being a Liberal country requires firm immigration controls.

As in, they got that wrong and echoed a GOP talking point. BBC must do better.

And the UK retains an effective 5% tarrif advantage over the EU who are bound by the TCA not to then use any unfriendly measures against us.

100%

There's clearly anger around and it would surprising if we didn't have some more Epping style protests over the summer. That doesn't mean you have to encourage it or seem actively excited about it escalating.

"Is Britain about to blow?" asks Matt Goodwin promoted a two hour special event on the subject.

Their greasy desperation for violence and carnage, so they can profit off it, is so disgusting.

You know what, since my main Twitter account got nixed after I told that Russian Embassy where to go, I've not been on the socials nearly as much, I have no idea about the latest "scandals" and im much, much happier. I have this for the OG Twitter awkward squad from 2012, but otherwise ... yeah.

You mean it means the EU, desperate for growth and opportunities to prevent its unemployed youth voting for the far Right, wants to dump them on the UK.

I get it, brief the press in public to increase pressure in private, but facts are we neither want nor need more EU nationals in the UK. So, nah.

I wish I could find it again. But there was a TikTok from a young Democrat in 2020 listing all the things Republicans hated about the USA and asking, if they love it as they claim, which bits do they actually like. Id ask the same of Reform regarding the UK. "I love Britain". Ok which bit?

Good thread this. Ultimately far too much courtesy is being paid towards the fantasies of some people who really need to just log off, visit Kew Gardens, go to the cinema, learn to enjoy life. Go outside!

Not really an overstatement to say that the test of a free society is whether or not comedians can make fun of the country's leader on TV without repurcussions.

Again: no answer. Because then you'd have to confront the fact the British people were never asked if they wanted 6 million people moving to the UK. And why should Europeans have these rights in the UK? Ireland is a special case.

Being part of the EU was toxic for the UKs cultural and political discourse.

Proof: talk about freedom of movement. See what happens. I am glad we don't have that hanging over us anymore.

16.07.2025 09:43 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Correct. And they've failed and will continue to fail which is why such talk is pointless. The truth is that the most comfortable state for the UK is outside. Yes, it causes friction on trade. But politically and culturally it is so much better for us.

I'm afraid Brexit was inevitable. Cameron may get the blame for calling the referendum, but it was always going to happen eventually post Maastricht. The UK more and more intransigent, the EU (and Eurogroup) more and more fed up.

We didn't buy in beyond a trade zone. That means divorce in the end.

UK-Gulf states trade deal on the horizon The UK is poised to sign a trade agreement with the Gulf states, including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Oh, we are very serious. And it will not be long now, this was just a few months back. Dubai will end up with more Brits than France. But sure, keep sending Macron et al to lecture us about our duty to a continent that causes us nothing but grief. That'll get you what you want.

09.07.2025 08:03 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Rather than wasting our time with the EU we should be focusing on a TCA with the Gulf. Brits aren't moving to Europe are they - theyre going to Dubai.

08.07.2025 22:03 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Then you'll do it alone. Entirely up to you isn't it. If that was your big "Choose Europe" pitch to the UK it's fallen flat.

A reminder: we have a deal with Trump. You dont. And given the French tried to scupper a UK-EU defense deal to win fishing concessions, we just need to stop wasting our time

I mean, how dare you.

Why are we giving Macron a state visit? He's just going to give some speech laden with snide comments about Brexit like the jilted ex.

Honestly, why do we do this to ourselves? Can't we just do one-sided state visits. We send Charlie boy, he says his hosts are wonderful, but they don't come here?

08.07.2025 07:17 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

And we won't take that deal. Happy to see the French now slashing the boats on the beach though. As always, our problems always wash up on the shores from Europe.
