Iβm assuming a certain company hasnβt paid enough to a certain individual.
Q: is my assumption completely baseless?
This is going in tomorrowβs lecture to new students at UCL. Thanks @resfoundation.bsky.social

I just wished more MSM did good research such as this to de-bunk the myths.
Split was roughly 55% for; 30% against
All RW media for with only Guardian of MSM against
Con 100% for; LibDem 100% against
Lab backbench split with those against led by Jeremy Corbyn
I was against - Wilsonβs theory not to be 1st Lab PM to take this country to war - RW press would never forget
Hold on to that feelinβ?
Or
Livinβ in a lonely world?

20.06.2025 20:25 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0As an illustration, I just debated a young "thinktank researcher" who said the fall in white British % was concerning, not for racist reasons, because we wanted to think that people we passed in the street had a "familial connection" to the country.
Seriously, who the fuck thinks like this???
I thought the sending off was harsh, esp in a pre-season friendly

Disagree with PP at #8, esp given those at 9, 10, 11, and 12
Rest is all a matter of opinion on order
I think Iβd have replaced PP with Jim Davidson

Our finance teacher said all of you now do work that in some way use computers. In the future that interaction will only grow and in 10, 15, 20 yrs youβll be left wondering how we ever managed to do what we did
And your skills will need to evolve as they do
I remember 20yrs ago on a Sat night my brother asked me to look around and say what I saw
What I saw was people of my age
I remember the 80s 90s it was full of young people - where were they?
And thatβs my point: nothing was done to give the young opportunities.
To me: result of an experiment
Glad your kids stayed
I left for south in 00, post Plant; Derby; York; Scunthorpe, with post York a struggle to find decent career for a degree equivalent qualified person
middle brother stayed & even though better qualified has struggled (career earnings 50% mine)
Youngest never came back post uni
Vs 1980 and 1990 would be good
With the other aspect needed median wages
The above industries in 1980 paid close to national median, would be surprised if the lead industries today do
The 1990s were horrific for decent employment, esp post grads with decent degrees. Always felt like never recovered
It could be my experience of living through it and believing no one could be this stupid to do this
Rightly or wrongly I assume Thatcher had a βplanβ and that might have just been along the lines of βit will survive on its own, doesnβt need our help, it will evolve into somethingβ
Seemed calculated
So: pre Thatcher biggest employment industries would be:
Coal
Rail
Glass
Farming machinery
Post Thatcher:
NHS
Council
Pre vs post for the latter probably didnβt change much
Which means nothing replaced the former with the only βinvestmentβ in the town coming via EU
Thatβs a social experiment
Having left 25+yrs ago & parents died in last few yrs Iβve not been around the town much since pre Covid
I do believe the place was a social experiment in the 80s to see how a place would survive once all means of employment vanished, so I can see how people believe any hype when all hope seems gone
I suspected my home town of Doncaster would be first
~25yrs ago went no overall control with BNP as largest groupβ¦. It didnβt last long
A very well known and respected journalist has always described this as a chemical attack on Salisbury, and was done to send a message.

Answer that and you can see it was sending a message
Your dad is v talented
Reminds me of Xmasβ of old when my dad (a talented artist, but long gone) would take pictures of Tom&Jerry and draw Xmas scenes mimicking them - in 40mins heβd turn out 6 or 7

I much rather money is spent removing the two child cap than giving pensioners the winter fuel allowance back - as the majority of them worked in the 80s and had lower taxes financed by a reduced State OAP. What did they spend that extra money on? My guess is it wasnβt an additional pension.
