Does water always recede prior to the arrival of a tsunami?

I was asked this yesterday after posting a graph of observed water levels at a station in Hawaii, which shows water levels first *increasing,* contrary to what many have heard about tsunamis.

The answer: no, not always! A thread... 🧵 1/9

This month I defended my master's thesis in Bioinformatics at @upf.edu! In my internship at @ki.se in @ejvillablanca.bsky.social's lab, I used bulk, single-cell and spatial transcriptomics to study changes in ulcerative colitis patients. Looking forward to keeping working in this exciting field!

Leveraging data as a patient–scientist: frustrations and opportunities Nature Reviews Nephrology, Published online: 19 June 2025; doi:10.1038/s41581-025-00968-9The transition from data scientist to patient–scientist has given me new perspectives into clinical research and strengthened my commitment to open science. Although limitations on data availability have led to frustration, collaboration bodes well for a future in which patients will have access to more personalized information.

In 2015, researchers Limb, Limb, Limb and Limb found that British doctors have surnames related to their specialties more often than expected by chance. Reproductive medicine had the largest proportion, with 1 in 52 doctors having specialty-relevant surnames including Horn, Hussey, and Woodcock. Second was Urology, with 1 in 59 related names such as Burns, Waterfall, Ball, and Koch.[96] "Dr Pain" appeared most commonly in general surgery.[96]

#Bluetorial: In our latest paper on #gdTcells and #IBD in #ScienceImmunology we found that γδ IEL number and regulatory function are severely compromised BEFORE ileal inflammation occurs, suggesting that γδ IELs may maintain IEL homeostasis in response to a pro-inflammatory microenvironment. 1/n

Single-cell profiling of the human endometrium in polycystic ovary syndrome - Nature Medicine A transcriptomic atlas of the endometrium of women with polycystic ovary syndrome uncovers both disease signatures and potential therapeutic targets.

My dear colleague Gustaw Eriksson has just published a comprehensive cellular atlas of the endometrium in women with PCOS, showing cell-type-specific disease signatures. This reveals new promising therapeutic targets for PCOS-related endometrial dysfunction.
