Just to give the TL;DR on this one:
*The* main purpose of the EO is to move funding priorities and decisions away from experts and career professionals over to political appointees. With the ultimate power held by Vought / OMB.

Thrilled to share that I received the NoA for my first R01 “Mechanisms of pathogenic microglial populations in CNS inflammation”. Major milestone for the Lab. Extremely grateful for SS/SRO, PO and everyone else at NINDS for their continued support. Photo of my lab, wife and son, celebrating!

Zeiss 63x objective
We need a new microscope objective. A $1.6k tariff for something that you can hold in your hand and that is only manufactured in Germany

The NIH budget will INCREASE by $400 million — not slashed by 40%, as Trump proposed — according to a proposal by Senate appropriators, says Sen Murray.
"Some have asked if there will even be an NIH by [2029]. The commmittee's resounding message is yes—Congress has your back", she says.

The NIH was healthiest when pay lines were in the 20th percentile range.
We are headed into an environment where pay lines are in the 5% range.
In my entire career, I’ve only had 3 grants that scored better than 5%. And my lab is considered a successful one.
This is going to destroy science.
