I often see with fish I.D that people will quote colour as absolute way to I.D fish species but fish change colour so rapidly, best you use it as a helpful marker but saying "it doesn't have red fins" doesn't mean its not a roach as is the case with this image of a roach with almost clear fins.

Going strong since September I’m half tempted to set up another marine tank!

One thing I’m keen to do film more European fish and I have plans to try for Vimba, Burbot and a few others this year. I’m very tempted to visit some of the Spanish and Portuguese rivers for the various barbel species and endemics to.

I'll be at the British Fly Fair International at Stafford Showground this weekend selling my book, gifts and catching up with some fishy pals. I've got a talk at 2:30pm on both days also about catching over 100 species in the UK.

I'm on the hunt for a venue with crucians in Nottinghamshire I seem to be drawing a blank on fisheries. Ideally if anyone knows any landowners / farmers who might have some old ponds with might have some original fish in I'd be keen to make contact.

I've only caught one red mullet a few years and had a handful of experiences of them on my cameras when filming on the south coast. they have two barbels under the chin which they use to find food hidden in the sand.

Looking back its funny what jobs you remember fondly and one that holds a special place in my heart was being a cameraman on "Mr Crabtree Goes Fishing" I had such a blast on that series visiting sites all over the UK and France with John Bailey #ThrowbackThursday

Building a tank room but the big question is Two medium tanks or one big and one small?

This oddball looking chap is the tadpole fish a member of the cod family normally found in colder northern waters in the British isles though does get caught from time to time from the shore.

Gave my mums raised pond a bit of a clean and found a couple of fish I’d forgotten were in there but mostly goldfish. I’d love to see these at more nature reserves would be a great tool for showing native fish, inverts and amphibians

I've been a wildlife cameraman for the past 14 years it all started in 2012 I saw a tweet that was looking for camera ops just starting out to work on a series called "The Great British Year" I got in touch and after a few attempts pitching ideas they eventually hired me!

Did a talk at Wollaton Natural History Society tonight and they asked if I’d like to handle the parrot be rude not to!

Emptying my raised pond today for its winter clean and pleased to find good numbers of crucians including this nice sized female.
