What our studious work as observers provided was no space for comforting illusions. Every future generation that looked upon the record of the atrocities viscerally knew who among them would comply, who would resist, and who would cheerlead the horrors.

The Black Panther Party for Self Defense has been doing good things for their community, but they need to stand for queer liberation as well. I have heard of their intent to liberate all ethnicities and races but nothing on queer people. If they truly stand for the people this is non negotiable.

Words are never neutral, especially when people are being beaten, arrested, and killed, or when an entire nation is cut off from the world. Iran’s protests are repeatedly framed as “chaos,” “manufactured,” or “infiltrated,” often by people presenting themselves as offering sober analysis, stripped of its historical context and disconnected from the lived reality inside Iran. This language closely mirrors the regime’s own narrative, one that Khamenei himself has echoed on state TV while openly threatening protesters. What we don’t hear are Iranian voices inside Iran. What we don’t see are the full events unfolding on the ground. Footage of protesters defending themselves against security forces, who are using live ammunition and military-grade weapons, is selectively shared and reframed as “violence” or “chaos.” People are not fighting each other; they are standing up to their oppressors. If you recognise this as resistance in Palestine but brand it as chaos in Iran, that contradiction should give you pause. During an internet blackout, repeating pro-regime talking points is not neutral. It fills the silence left when Iranians are unable to speak for themselves, and it puts people in real danger. You can centre Iranians and what they are experiencing without collapsing everything into Western geopolitics. The goal of states like the US or Israel is not to help protesters succeed, but to weaken the regime, and Iranians are treated as collateral damage in that process. That reality does not invalidate the uprising; it means that centring Iranian agency is even more urgent. The more this space is filled with principled solidarity, the less room there is for cynical exploitation.
