Screenshot from THE SIMPSONS. Homer asks Apu: Got any of that beer that has candy floating in it? You know, skittlebrau.
Apu replies: Such a product does not exist, sir. I think you must have dreamed it.
That's rough.

Maybe it's because I'm a mom myself, but it's refreshing to see a mom who is not only alive, but has powers.

I just read this book and found it delightful. I will definitely check out further books in the series.
Personally, I'm hoping to see more of Autumn's mom.

A comic strip based off of the television show "Bluey." It is recreating the opening theme, where four anthropomorphic dogs dance in a blue background. In the first panel, three of the dogs are pointing at the mother dog, who has the word "mum" over her. In the second panel, three dogs are pointing at the father dog, who has the word "dad" over him. In the third panel, suddenly Tom Servo from the television show Mystery Science Theater 3000 is hovering in the middle of the panel. He is a res robot made out of a gumball machine. He has the words "Tom Servo" floating over him. The dogs look surprised and alarmed. In the final panel, Crow T Robot from Mystery Science Theater 3000 has also joined in, he is a gold robot made out of a bowling pin, athletic wire mask, and other stuff, and he is practically popping out of the panel at the viewer. The word "Croooow!" floats over him. The dogs just look confused now.
Dang. I posted this last night and should have waited a day.

I see the book pirating discourse is going around again, and Iβm just so tired, yβall.
If you want books to continue to exist, do not steal books. Period. The end.
βBut but butβ¦β
No.
There are so many free options out there: fanfiction, libraries, etc. You donβt need to steal books to read.

The Three Sentence Review
If itβs stressing you out, and you want to write a review, a helpful review can easily be made with three simple sentences:
One: What you can expect from the book (without spoilers).
ββThe Unwantedβ is a great young adult story where a young gay teen struggling with a bully learns heβs got bigger problems when his long-lost mother returns, reveals sheβs an Amazon, and tells him heβs part of an important prophecy.
Two: What was unique/awesome/moving/exciting about the book (again, no spoilers).
βTaking Greek mythology and blending it with the real struggles of a gay teen is a delicate balance, and Jeffrey Ricker manages it with aplomb.β
Three: Using a better-known author or a genre, which readers do you think would enjoy the book?
βAny reader who loved Rick Riordanβs βThe Lightning Thiefβ should grab βThe Unwanted.ββ
It doesnβt have to be an essay to be helpful, and youβd be surprised how much even a simple review does help an author.
Okay, because I need to try and re-spark some writing community joy after⦠*gestures at everything* how about a revisit on a way you can absolutely support authors you love for zero dollars: by dropping a low-stress, three-sentence review somewhere.

I see we're being told piracy is good, actually, or we get exposure,or it's a compliment that someone wants our work enough to steal it.
1)No.
2)People die of exposure.
3)No. It's entitlement.
Would you walk into someone's house, take a book and leave? Theft is theft.

My two novellas against a starry background: THE NIGHT LIBRARY OF STERNENDACH: A VAMPIRE OPERA IN VERSE, and THE GLASS GARDEN. The first has batwings, fangs, and a book on the cover. The other has white letters on a kaleidoscope image.
As always, thanks, Gabino!
#Novellavember will be wrapping up soon, and I know some of you are still looking for new books to round out the month.
