A “worst-case scenario” famine is unfolding in Gaza according to experts.

The World Food Programme says Gaza needs to be flooded with 'large-scale food aid' to “prevent mass starvation”.

Now is the time for the UK government, and others, to ACT. There is no more time to waste.

A decent home should be the baseline, not the exception.

No one should be worried about eviction just for asking for a working boiler or a mould-free home. Landlord licensing is an essential tool to hold landlords to a higher standard.

Introducing a supportive amendment to a motion titled: "Together Against Violence against women and girls" @zoegarbett.bsky.social highlighted the need to address misogyny and hate towards women and wanted it noted that Metropolitan police has been found to be institutionally misogynist.

Cllr @alastairis.bsky.social spoke to an item of opposition sponsored business titled: "Hackney’s Poor Record on Community Consultation and Engagement" and said: "If we won’t co-design changes with residents, the very least we can do is listen when they try to help us get it right."

Cllr @zoegarbett.bsky.social also pushed the Mayor on what she's done to push for rent controls. The speaker didn't allow a supplementary question about why the deputy mayor has failed to respond to the concerns about disrepair at Fellows Court that affects private renters.

Councillor @liamzud.bsky.social pushed the cabinet member on the lack of grassroots community engagement on the council's Youth Justice Plan and highlighted the significant exclusion on the needs of young people with SEND, and how there are intersectional needs in the youth justice space.

We need a maximum working temperature Every summer, temperatures are rising and working in prolonged heat and sun can be dangerous. It can cause a number of health concerns, from dehydration and dizziness to the most serious of illnesses....

We need a maximum temperature limit for workers!

Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is updating it's guidance on safe working temperatures. The guidance includes a minimum temperature, but not maximum temperature.

The Hackney Green Party welcomes the long overdue judgment on the assault on Child Q in 2020, an incident that continues to cast a long shadow over our borough and our nation. The dismissal of two Metropolitan Police officers for gross misconduct, along with a final warning issued to a third, makes a significant step in recognising the serious failings that took place. However, this does not go far enough. We are deeply concerned that the misconduct panel did not uphold the Director General’s findings of racism and adultification, two deeply troubling elements of the case that have been plainly identified and called out by the community and those directly affected. Antoinette Fernandez, Green Party Candidate for Hackney North and Stoke Newington in July 2024 said: “This will hopefully go some way to relieving the anguish and debilitating trauma caused to Child Q and her family, but unlikely to improve the lack of trust the Black community and people of Hackney in general have in the Met Police. Hackney Green Party continues to stand in solidarity with Child Q and her family. We commend the bravery and strength of Child Q’s family who refused to be silenced or dismissed, and whose persistence made this outcome possible. This outcome must not mark the end of the process for accountability. We support the calls for further legal and professional scrutiny of both the officers and the school staff involved.
