Look at the vocabulary used in comics, itβs not dumbed down whatsoever. I once checked the reading level of early Spider-Man and X-Men and it was grade 11 or higher. I would wager that kids into comics have better reading comprehension. Have any studies on this ever been done?

No kidding. Once sat through a 2-hour Zoom meeting discussing a course proposal that everyone agreed was needed but foundered completely because the two professors that wrote the proposal were from different departments and no one could agree on which department would get the course designation.

Apart from the joyful cavalcade of fonts on that box, I'm impressed with that someone at the company was sufficiently dazzled with the phrase "magic finger clutch" that they thought, "We'd better register that, and fast!"

Finished watching The Day of the Jackal series on Peacock, twice. While most will regard this simply as a superbly-acted political thriller, it can also be seen as a 10-hour PSA about the dangers of distracted driving.

I've had to have a number of scans like that in recent years. The technicians always offer headphones with classic rock or somesuch, and I always say, "nah, I'll enjoy the sounds of your machine more, I'm good." Their expression suggests that they assume that's WHY they're scanning my brain...

I think you explained it just fine, and I concur. There's something exhilarating about experiencing art that defies/transcends rationality. Colorblind James said it this way: "Oh Lord, it makes me feel so good, when I don't know where I stand..."

Absolutely, maybe THE most amazing. I regard The Return as Lynch's grand gesture as an artist, and Part 8 is the basis for that opinion. He uses absolutely everything he'd ever learned.

Every match since Zavagnin took over has seen improvement in quality of play. More creativity and versatility in attack and better defensive awareness. Still a way to go for the latter, but weβre heading the right direction.

I've seen a handful of people mention the passing of Michael Hurley. I was lucky enough to play with him a couple of times. A true American original and eccentric, a devoted enthusiast of 8-track tapes and a genuinely lovely guy.

One of my time machine fantasies would be to go back and listen to Bruckner improvising on the organ. All contemporary accounts suggest they were amazing. Visit Alkan and make some bookshelf support suggestions, and then buy a brace of Putneys circa 1971 and put 'em in paid storage for later...
