I in no way meant to was dismiss your scientific capabilities/credentials.

It’s just I grew up in Canada (metric) but returned to, & live/work, in the UK (imperial) but we still universally use Celsius, as Fahrenheit is just so incomprehensible to even those that adhere to miles& pounds.

Honestly not dissing the post but … you’re a scientist, doesn’t the whole ‘Fahrenheit’ thing jar?

I had to look up what 1°F was in C before I could think “yeah OK that’s cold”.

I do know -40°F = -40 °C. That’s about it.

And don’t get me started on ounces.

I am Scientist because of the Ontario Science Centre. I can’t believe it has been shut down.

This is an excellent (& informative) thread. When I was working on cellular junctions I would have loved to try this probe (no longer pursuing that project) but will keep the probe in mind for others.

Good luck - At my daughter’s (secondary/high) school I once described my job (with a PowerPoint display) &, after I finished, a girl, who had been staring off into space, turned & looked at me and said, “So. What … are you a scientist or something?”.

This ‘the Stranger’s case’ should be projected - on repeat - onto the White House, the State Capitol and, sadly, our own Houses of Parliament.

Though again, sadly, those ears that could understand the words would pretend deafness while to Trump & his coterie it would be unintelligible gibberish.

During Covid Lockdown I was an ‘essential worker’ - maintaining insect colonies, supporting imaging for Covid research etc.

Working in isolation (I thought).

In my 1st Lab I had a little shrine to the PCR Gods.

You know - a laughing Buddha, a cigar, a shot-glass - totally normal.

& I’d always say to new lab entrants, students, visitors … “I’m a rationale scientist & in no way superstitious … but … respect the PCR Gods”.

What is it with the Eppendorf pipette pens?

They’re weird, hard to hold & stick out in drawers and pockets.

But there is a group of scientists who will carve you up if you ‘borrow’ their pens.

I’d understand it if it was their actual Gilson/Eppendorf pipettors.

I feel so impotent watching what is going on but thought ‘Yeah - I could buy a book from this actual legend’. Except I can’t. Either because I’m in the UK or because his site is overwhelmed. But have to say his bookstore dreamhavenbooks.com looks AWESOME.
