Since then, these areas have become some of the most common for arresting the merely undocumented and whisking them away. Pardon the pun, but arresting people at immigration court is like shooting fish in a barrel.

Last year Trump removed a prohibition on ICE entering “protected areas” to arrest immigrants. This allows ICE to enter a church to make an arrest, which is more obstructive than merely protesting or taping the protest.

Now, I believe that such stunts are protected speech and Lemon’s arrest by authorities was itself performative and wrong. But there’s also another element of fairness to consider.

IMO, going into the church where an ICE official is pastor (don’t get me started on that freaking creepy dynamic) was a stunt. As a rule, stunts are not terribly effective unless there’s an element of humor. The goofy protest costumes were a stunt but they worked.
