Sometimes, cool 'n' funky eye designs that look cool in your head don't actually work for visual storytelling. Guess I had to learn this one the hard way (as I spent like 3 hours doodling different eye designs 😭) I just hope Jinfō strikes the right balance of fantastical and minimal.

So... I wasn't successful in DYCP, i.e. won't be getting any arts funding. Which sucks a lot, I was really hoping for a break here. But it's not the end of the road. I've still got the rest of my life and career ahead of me. I will pen Silver Surfer one day, I know it.

Every time I've gone back to play them, it's been a case of ensuring that I've got a hot key set to turbo so I can skip through some stuff. An RPG for the Game Boy was a different breed, you were so amazed to be holding a full game in your hands that you didn't care if it was sluggish or slow-paced.

A potential upside is that I’ve applied for arts funding via DYCP and if that’s successful, I’ll be able to get new equipment with that funding. But I hear back on July 24th, so that’s basically 2 months of no drawing. 4 pages of Dermatillomaniac #1 are done, so I guess it’s script editing for me 🫡

Well, just heard back from the repair shop: my iPad is pretty much unusable. They may find the right part for it, somewhere, but it’s not looking good. It sucks because I found my passion project in comics, the thing that kept me going through every writer’s block and boring day.

I fear that the Silver Surfer went hardest in #64 in 1992 by @ronmarz.bsky.social and Ron Lim, a fantastic issue that explores his guilt in a striking way, with perhaps my favourite final page of any comic ever. Always a treat to revisit this one.

I feel tremendously sorry for every single person involved with the creation of a Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli film, and every single fan of those works. Right now, social media is plastered with absolute garbage AI slop that is plagiarising real art made by real humans. What a bleak time to be alive.

Sometimes I think the real redemption was the shaws we shanked along the way.

This guy is in one of the worst prisons in the world with no way out and may spend the rest of his life there because, it appears, he has an autism awareness tattoo in honor of his little brother.
