A big reason it holds up is the way they talk about and use tech, but don't put a lot of it on screen.

There's nothing illegal about an order to parade. Detaining people in LA? That's a whole different thing.

Even if that's true there are the 30% of us who serve or have served, because it's a good thing to do a service to your country, who didn't vote for this. Use your judgment based on what you know and not prejudice. If someone's in your life you should know if they deserve to hear it.
