This was by written by Katsuhiro Otomo, who also wrote and directed Akira. It's completely different tonally, of course, but the bed grows stronger and weirder in form similar to Tetsuo.

Oh yeah, another one of my videos got blocked a little while ago, so I'll mention it.

Roujin Z is a comic satire about treatment of the elderly. A bedridden old man is used in a government experiment for a super bed that will take care of him, but the bed's AI evolves and goes on a mild rampage.

I wasn't able to upload a video on this one, so I'll just mention it: Uchuu Enban Daisensou, essentially the pilot of Grendizer.

The big difference here is that there's no connection to Mazinger. I think Toei came up with the idea, so it's a stock tragic romance, not Nagai's boundary testing junk.

It's only one episode so it was rather forgotten, but it's got a good ominous vibe. Feels kind of Shin Megami Tensei to me.

It started as Daimazinger, but they couldn't decide on a direction so they split the project up. Daimajuu Gekitou got the horror story and Dangaioh got the action.

I got was instructed to delete my YouTube video on Daimajuu Gekitou for some reason. I'm not particularly upset about losing an old video I uploaded for fun, but I am curious as to why suddenly this happened years later.

If it shows up in the next Super Robot Wars, gimme credit for calling one!

I added some jagged parts to try to invoke a shark or piranha as a way of adding a visual connection with water, and hopefully thus with ice and ice hockey. 12/12

but I got the image in my head of Masami Obari giving Gravion exaggeratedly sharp blades on its feet and felt like doing the same with the skates would be a very fun. 11/12

I also felt like Ariga puts in a lot of effort to give Robot Masters unique feet through their booster arrays. Goalie Woman would already be wearing skates for ice hockey so that's uncommon, 10/12

and since Goalie Woman looks like she's in Canadian flag colours I based the extra hand on the space shuttle Canadarm. 9/12

and thought I could do that to make Goalie Woman's back less plain. Rather than a weapon, I thought additional hands would better fit the focus on catching things as with the vacuum arm, 8/12

Then to build on the design further, I reviewed @arigamegamix.bsky.social x.bsky.social 's Robot Master redesigns. I wanted to keep the design feeling like it's in the realm of Mega Man. I liked how he gave folks like Crash Man and Skull Man new hidden weapons, 7/12

The design on the chest is also similar to the heart on Youko's super suit, but I made it more abstract. Coincidentally, this also gave Goalie Woman colours similar to a Canadian flag, which is also fitting for the ice hockey theme. 6/12

But I still wanted to have some remnant of superhero history in there, so I picked colours similar to Youko Misaki from Gowapper 5 Gordam, and similarly wanted her to be a woman despite her armour's bulky frame. 5/12

it didn't seem right for a Showa era superhero, but it was perfect for a goalie whose main purpose was to be good at catching things. So I figured that I should really be going all in on the goalie concept. 4/12

Hockey goalies wear a bulky costume that covers their whole body, so I thought it would lend well to a robot. But when I tried to visualize it, I couldn't get it to look like a superhero. Additionally, when I actually looked at the rules and saw the suction arm requirement, 3/12

without knowing the specifics, I got the idea of a Showa era superhero robot. Tatsunoko's Gowapper 5 and Ippatsuman have sports equipment motifs, and I figured that would lend more to a robot than an animal motif like Kamen Rider. 2/12

I think it'll be fun to go into the thought process behind this one.

Since Mega Man draws influence from Showa era superheroes like Casshern and Kikaider, when I first heard there was a new boss design contest, without knowing the specifics, 1/12

Here's the final submission image of Goalie Woman. I was a little worried that it wasn't clear how the giant vacuum arm basis was implemented - admittedly, it was an afterthought even if I liked how it all came together - so I put in an explanation of that as well.

These are the last details I wanted to take note of before I start on the art for the proper submission, the Canadarm-like appendage.

It comes out of the center, so it's got a thumb on both sides. I'm not thinking too much about the logistics, but this 'glove' should be soft so it can be stored.

I briefly thought about pucks and hockey sticks - like, maybe her backpack could have shot pucks at Mega Man instead - but she's Goalie Woman and not Hockey Woman, so I wanted her to be focused on defending and catching.

But now I want to at least doodle her with a hockey stick sword extra weapon.

Proceeding towards the final version of Goaliewoman, primarily looking at Hitoshi Ariga for inspirations. I haven't put it together, but I'm happy with all of these pieces.

Added upper legs so she can do a defensive squat (but can't stand straight), verniers, ducts, and a Canadarm-like backpack.

Wanted to slip in a late submission to the Mega Man design contest, so I took to MS Paint to plan out my idea first.

Originally I was thinking of a Japanese superhero, but then when I tried to visualize it my ideas morphed into this goalie. The extending arm and vacuum means she catches pucks well.
