This lesion here has the classic morphology of a traditional serrated adenoma and the typical BRAF-V600E-mutation. Note the non-neoplastic colonic crypts in the middle, which are negative for BRAF-V600E.

Pathology integrates the morphology of a lesion and its molecular alterations to come to definite diagnosis in the best case and to guide a patient's therapy, often in the oncological setting.

Shouldn't that be far more than enough for a soccer World cup in the USA? Under the current regime and the current conditions very few spectators from other, way more soccer-crazy countries will make it to the US, especially from latin America and Europe.

You can't teach U.S. history without "divisive" narratives. Slavery wasn't "unifying." The Japanese incarceration wasn't "unifying." The anti-immigrant Operation Wetback (real name) wasn't "unifying."
It's history's job to tell the truth, not cover up past racism to pave the way for future racism.

Intratumoral bacterial abundance confers poor response to adjuvant gemcitabine in resected pancreatic cancer patients which is mitigated by postoperative antibiotics - British Journal of Cancer British Journal of Cancer - Intratumoral bacterial abundance confers poor response to adjuvant gemcitabine in resected pancreatic cancer patients which is mitigated by postoperative antibiotics

in patients treated with adjuvant gemcitabine-based therapies. Even cases with high abundance+postopABT had a similar outcome as cases with low abundance and no ABT. Thus postoperative ABT shortly before adjuvant gemcitabine-based chemotherapy may serve as additive therapy. tinyurl.com/3htdnwdk

As one thinks about detrimental bacteria, one may instantly think about how to fight them, possibly by antibiotics (ABT). We determined how perioperative ABT affected patient outcome in the adjuvant situation. Surprisingly, only postoperative but not preoperative ABT improved the patients' prognosis

Thus we reasoned that it is not necessarily the bacterial composition but rather the bacterial abundance within a tumor which determines its response to gemcitabine as high abundances invariably come with high amounts of gemcitabine-degrading bacteria.

Finally, we sought to determine the role of gram-positive bacteria in this context as they may degrade gemcitabine, but with lower efficacy. Thus, we detected bacterial lipoteichoic acid (LTA), a surface marker of gram-positive bacteria in FFPE tumor samples and it resembled what we saw with LPS.

Bacterial Lipopolysaccharide as a Negative Predictor of Adjuvant Gemcitabine Efficacy in Pancreatic Cancer Abstract. Adjuvant gemcitabine (aGC) is one standard of care after pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) resection. No biomarker for its efficacy is esta

This was the case for advanced PDAC tinyurl.com/yc6799rv but also for the adjuvant situation tinyurl.com/9sryx225.
By 16s rRNA sequencing on a subset of samples, we found that LPS positivity defined a specific intratumoral microbiome enriched for bacteria capable of gemcitabine degradation.

10.06.2025 19:56 — 👍 2    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

Indeed, not only did we find LPS in a good proportion of PDAC samples, we could also show that patients with LPS- positive tumors had a much worse outcome when treated with gemcitabine-based chemotherapy.

10.06.2025 19:51 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

We then sought to determine whether 1. There were intratumoral bacteria in archival PDAC samples and 2. how they affected patient outcome. We focused on bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS), a marker of gram-negative bacteria detectable by immunohistochemistry(IHC).

I would like to tell a little tale about our view on the microbiomes' implications in pancreatic cancer.
As pathologists, we mostly focus on the tumor tissue itself, not on non-neoplastic tissue afar from the tumor. Thus, we focus on the intratumoral microbiomes and its meaning for patient outcome.
