And also in tokusatsu, suit actors like the late, great Haruo Nakajima did the same exact thing with Godzilla and other monsters. Kenpachiro Satsuma (who passed away not too long ago) fought for safety protocols when he played Godzilla from 1984-1995.

I was taken to see this in a cinema in NYC when I was 3. It really did feel like I saw Superman coming to life from the comics!

Needless to say, I enjoyed the new movie also.
