Our crews will be out on the roads today and into the work week. While the storm will exit by Sunday, it may take additional time to clear the roads due to the extreme cold. We need your continued patience over the next few days as we work to ensure safe travel conditions.

With these bitter temperatures, the effectiveness of salt will be limited, making road conditions hazardous. Please avoid travel this weekend, especially in the southern regions. Overnight travel will be particularly treacherous.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect this weekend for the southern half of the state, with heavy snow expected. An Extreme Cold Warning is also in place statewide today through the weekend.

After being damaged by an oversized truck two years ago, Princeton’s Red Covered Bridge remains closed as engineering work continues. Phase I is nearly complete, with repair plans approved, and Phase II design work will begin soon. 🧵

Last year, IDOT crews worked hard to keep Illinois roads clean and safe! In 2025, over 100,000 bags of litter were collected in Cook and collar counties.

Through the Adopt-A-Highway Program, volunteers partnered with IDOT to remove an additional 1,814 bags of litter statewide.
