Also the idea that people haven't been listening to the left is just wrong. Just look at how popular ideas like socialism, anti-imperialism, etc are now compared to 20 years ago. The left has gained a ton of steam it's just too slow and maybe too late.

That's fair enough. I'm just saying we should learn from our mistakes and listen to the folks who might turn out to be right instead of waiting until things get catastrophic and then realizing they were right all along.

Not you specifically but the general tenor of this thread seems to be that the creation of ICE as part of a proto-fascist DHS was inevitable due to broad post 9-11 panic. But folks have been calling to abolish ICE for more than a decade. We ignored them until it became catastrophic. Just like Iraq.

The point is that our systems are captured by free market ideology. Everything is built around profit-driven companies, so the majority of new therapeutics come from them. there are other ways to do it. If Cuba developed the vaccine with the blockade in place imagine what they could do without it.

Yet Cuba was able to develop a lung cancer vaccine, even with the embargo. Miss me with the idea that the only way to innovate is through big profit driven pharmaceutical companies. That's a lie sold to the American people so we will continue subsidizing their profits.
