I remember Suzie Orman coming to UCSF to talk to women graduate students about finances, & she was absolutely unable to understand what it was like to make $16K/year in SF in 1995. I asked what to do when we had NO investable income, and she told me to stop buying "expensive" lattes. 🙃

I think most people don't want to know the names of the people who represent them. If they have to think about those people, they're doing a bad job.

I personally don't remember the names of most of the people who represent me, but I have their emails at least.

A politician unafraid to maintain principles is far more reassuring, even if I disagree with them.

A politician willing to admit they were wrong, and changed principles not based on rhetoric or popularity, but on education, is even better.

If all you care about is polling, you also lose trustworthiness. You'll never be principled, your position changing with whatever looks most popular, instead of static or changing with knowledge.

And I was the only reporter on the ground who watched as Houston Police arrested four people who tried to stop the removal of the rainbow crosswalk in the wee hours of the night. This is a moment in my early career i'll always be proud of.

Both foxes dash into action, rushing to the same direction. Green: It's coming from the intersection outside! Blue: To the balcony! Now on the balcony, both foxes look down in fascination as a cacophony of nonstop honking is happening somewhere below. Green: Wow, the person blocking traffic really thinks they have the right of way. Blue: Amazing. Green turns to look over his shoulder to the apartment, while Blue's eyes are still glued on the action. The aggressive honking continues. Green: Will you keep me updated if I go make us popcorn? Blue: Sure.

I would like to follow this up with my firmly-held and very Midwestern opinion that automated in-ground irrigation systems for single family homes are rich people nonsense, and this colors my thoughts.
