H&N were definitely a show of force to the Soviets; a devastating weapon they didn't have. Except, as you pointed out already, they weren't much more powerful than conventional arms.

Nukes have never stopped a war, or prevented one.

Interestingly, the main thing that kept the Cold War cold was how much money it would have cost for either side to go to war.
Hyper capitalism (yes, even in the so-called "Communist" USSR) was the main thing that kept war at bay.

ALL violence is horrific. Take H&N as a light to shine against nukes.
Take the World Wars as a beacon against war as a whole.

That's what I think, anyway.

World Wars were devastating... I and II combined cost 5% of the planet's population their lives.
Nuclear war could be 5 or even 10 times that.

I think focusing H&N on the terror of nuclear weapons is more prudent.
World war is horrific.

Border skirmishes are horrific.
Gang violence... police brutality... murder... assault.
