‘Is there anybody there?’ said the Traveller,
   Knocking on the moonlit door;
And his horse in the silence champed the grasses
   Of the forest’s ferny floor:
And a bird flew up out of the turret,
   Above the Traveller’s head:
And he smote upon the door again a second time;
   ‘Is there anybody there?’ he said.
But no one descended to the Traveller;
   No head from the leaf-fringed sill
Leaned over and looked into his grey eyes,
   Where he stood perplexed and still.
But only a host of phantom listeners
   That dwelt in the lone house then
Stood listening in the quiet of the moonlight
   To that voice from the world of men:
Stood thronging the faint moonbeams on the dark stair,
   That goes down to the empty hall,
Hearkening in an air stirred and shaken
   By the lonely Traveller’s call.
And he felt in his heart their strangeness,
   Their stillness answering his cry,
While his horse moved, cropping the dark turf,
   ’Neath the starred and leafy sky;
For he suddenly smote on the door, even
   Louder, and lifted his head:—
‘Tell them I came, and no one answered,
   That I kept my word,’ he said.
Never the least stir made the listeners,
   Though every word he spake
Fell echoing through the shadowiness of the still house
   From the one man left awake:
Ay, they heard his foot upon the stirrup,
   And the sound of iron on stone,
And how the silence surged softly backward,
   When the plunging hoofs were gone.

This essay is 100% correct. The U.S. has always been like this. While we achieved some limited gains in franchising marginalized people in this country during certain occasions, the asymmetrical relationship between citizens and their investor / oligarchy captured government has not changed.

I really enjoyed it for what it is. Gimmicky, but entertaining. It gets kinda Lovecraftian towards the end.

As the first Dem president elected after the SCOTUS steal in 2000, he did nothing to protect the Voting Rights Act or ensure that elections would be conducted fairly in the future. On the contrary, he let the right destroy ACORN and appointed DNC chairs who eviscerated the 50 state strategy.

He kneecapped antitrust enforcement and helped set the stage for these giant tech companies taking over everything. Didn't try to roll back all of the horrible legislation passed under Bush including the Patriot Act and massive tax cuts.

One of the great unsung / underseen horror movies is Paperhouse (1988). It's very close to a masterpiece. A young girl, ill with a fever, finds that whatever she draws is manifested into the empty fields of her dreams, exactly as she drew it. Unfortunately, this is not all it's cracked up to be...

That's unfortunate. I just started playing the game and enjoy it so far. I wonder if the developers might fix this at some point?

Any SOI adaptation that doesn't go hard on the government raid of Innsmouth (can anyone see the parallels with contemporary events in the US?), is going to be lesser for it. Probably my favorite adaptations include Breccia's and Tanabe's.

The whole fish people skinning human faces for masks seem
superfluous. Gordon's constant use of closeup shots takes too much attention away from the setting. Also, if he was going to include a sacrifice scene, why didn't they do it on the beach at night?

I rewatched Stuart Gordon's Dagon last night & continue to think that it's one of the mid-tier Lovecraft adaptations. Most of the changes he made to Shadow Over Innsmouth story did not benefit his film, with the exception of the inclusion of Uxía.We should have gotten a creepy bus ride to Innsmouth!
