I teach framing in upper divisions college courses. I am not very successful. At the end of the semester people are still asking for objective news.

Traveler, reader, dog and human mom, political scientist (in no particular order). I work at a mind factory in Boulder, CO but my views are not theirs. Democracy isnβt going to save itself, people.

14.02.2026 03:50 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0IMO itβs being significantly underreported that James Van Der Beek, despite all his success and earnings, was so thoroughly wiped out financially by his cancer that by the end his former costars were holding fundraisers to support his family and fund his treatment.
12.02.2026 03:36 β π 32 π 7 π¬ 2 π 0This.
11.02.2026 23:29 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Like a full 30% of the current US was Mexican territory until the mid-nineteenth century, that culture and heritage and language didnβt up and vanish after the Alamo or whatever, acting like Spanish isnβt a huge part of the American tapestry is super short-sighted and ahistorical
09.02.2026 03:47 β π 240 π 46 π¬ 1 π 4I have so many thoughts.
09.02.2026 03:48 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The more practical me (who isnβt very practical) thinks hybridity and media theory and hybridity. The less practical me (who isnβt very too tired to be radical atm) says Graeber-esque anarchism.

09.02.2026 00:13 β π 89 π 7 π¬ 3 π 0I keep wishing MacKenzie Scott and Melinda French Gates would team up for something. They both just seem to have stayed so smart and level-headed through experiencing extreme wealth and now they have the brains and the money. Just my weird little fantasy.
08.02.2026 15:58 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Dumb question: This scandal, considered seismic in Britain, is really about Mandelson leaking confidential, market-moving govt information to Epstein amid the 2008 financial crisis, which Epstein in turn passed to JP Morgan, including advice to Jamie Dimon.
Why is this not hitting Jamie Dimon?
Giving an open book blue book exam with an actual paper textbook and the students are so adorable referring to the book and writing their answers. The energy is somehow fun.
03.02.2026 20:30 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0And donβt get me started on the overuse of faculty fellowships as extra pay for extra work with no course release or relief from other duties. These things should be % positions not extra jobs.
03.02.2026 18:49 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This one resonated. As NTT faculty, only systematic raises are merit raises which range 0-<3%. I am not eligible for retention raises- food workers can get retentions, but not me. Also, different rules for different TT people- some people get retentions, others told similar offer doesnβt count.

01.02.2026 03:36 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 1Even my carefully cultivated Instagram puppies and turtles and bunnies feed is now like, βThis dog was abandoned when ICE kidnapped his familyβ and βour beloved dog walker got deported.β The people who are witnessing these horrors first hand and saying βthis is not okayβ are everywhere.
30.01.2026 21:43 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I mean, deportation isnβt even the right word. Banishment?
30.01.2026 03:51 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Well, ok. Perhaps now look into the thousands of actual scholars who canβt teach or research in their areas of expertise due to censorship and persecution.

29.01.2026 23:38 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I am not surprised. My work is only very tangentially related to this (I am a political scientist) and I didnβt even read the Guardian piece because the claim seemed ridiculous that this was new.

29.01.2026 20:05 β π 6 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0Once again, I ask, in good faith & without trying to be overly alarmist, what anyone has seen in the last year to make them believe that the 2026/28 elections will be free, fair, & democratic by any traditional meaning of the words?
