I teach framing in upper divisions college courses. I am not very successful. At the end of the semester people are still asking for objective news.

IMO it’s being significantly underreported that James Van Der Beek, despite all his success and earnings, was so thoroughly wiped out financially by his cancer that by the end his former costars were holding fundraisers to support his family and fund his treatment.

Giving an open book blue book exam with an actual paper textbook and the students are so adorable referring to the book and writing their answers. The energy is somehow fun.

And don’t get me started on the overuse of faculty fellowships as extra pay for extra work with no course release or relief from other duties. These things should be % positions not extra jobs.

This one resonated. As NTT faculty, only systematic raises are merit raises which range 0-<3%. I am not eligible for retention raises- food workers can get retentions, but not me. Also, different rules for different TT people- some people get retentions, others told similar offer doesn’t count.

Well, ok. Perhaps now look into the thousands of actual scholars who can’t teach or research in their areas of expertise due to censorship and persecution.

I have a lot of questions.

I am not surprised. My work is only very tangentially related to this (I am a political scientist) and I didn’t even read the Guardian piece because the claim seemed ridiculous that this was new.

When I saw that article I thought that we have known this for a long time and I could not remember the scholar who did the work. Thanks so much for doing this.

Once again, I ask, in good faith & without trying to be overly alarmist, what anyone has seen in the last year to make them believe that the 2026/28 elections will be free, fair, & democratic by any traditional meaning of the words?
