Pregnant people living in states with abortion bans are almost twice as likely to die during pregnancy or shortly after giving birth, according to a new Gender Equity Policy Institute report.

The report found the risk is even higher for Black women in those states.

Grieving husband says "reckless" Texas abortion law led to pregnant wife's death Between 2019 and 2022, the maternal mortality rate in Texas increased 56% after the state outlawed abortions.
