14.10.2025 16:18 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Just sitting back and letting the narrator do ALL the work is so perfect. At this point Iβm toying with the idea of a tobacco scented candle to add to the ambiance.
12.10.2025 15:20 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Not dead (yet)!
12.10.2025 14:17 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0That first quote is so audacious and really representative of the reason the narration of these stories is so good. The audiobook is π₯

04.10.2025 20:39 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Absolutely howled at so much of this. I mean, Iβm sure it helps that Iβve lived most of my life in a university town. Itβs not Cambridge, butβ¦
03.10.2025 21:44 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Iβm listening to an audiobook to spare my eyes a bit and the tone that was taken with golf was perfection.
03.10.2025 21:34 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0I must have seen the TV adaptation of The Mezzotint, which blunted the spookiness a bit. For me the actual best part was the penny-pinching, the portrayal of boys club academia, and those multiple jabs at GOLFβ³οΈ π±
03.10.2025 20:03 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Well Lost Hearts either demonstrates that a well written story can be effective even if you see the end coming a mile away, or that my mind leaping to recent talk of $$$ tech bros and oligarchs using young blood and organ harvesting to live forever did the trick. π± #pleasingterror
02.10.2025 20:26 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0FYI, Iβve noticed that only posts that include the π± are making it into the feed, and I have to search #pleasingterror to catch the others.
02.10.2025 20:09 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0A student with dysgraphia experiences so much cognitive overload when writing by hand that any retention benefit they get from it is negated. There are other ways to improve retention.
29.09.2025 17:55 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yes! Learning to touch type would work, but Iβm betting dictation will become more common in the future. Anything to keep the focus on the assignment and not have to share cognitive burden with typing when typing isnβt a skill the student has.
29.09.2025 16:55 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This was weirdly my field of expertise once. The cognitive demand of typing could certainly disrupt her train of thought. :(
Writing first is a good fix until typing skills improve. Is voice to text for fluency and then editing an option? Crazy for educators not to see this as a problem.
The tiny crystals sent me over the edge. May this man finish this amazingly ambitious work.
28.09.2025 21:11 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The Bread Garden is located in Johnson County. A state is red therefore they deserve it is just malicious.
25.09.2025 23:58 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The womenβs movement splintered from the New Left in the 60s for good reasons. And one of the reasons was being asked to suppress their needs for a greater good defined by men as they, the women, fetched coffee. Patriarchy is alive and well in 2025 too. Itβs important to keep our eyes open to it.

Itβs time to preserve the knowledge and tools, somehow, because the past may become the only authentically human future. I thumbed my nose at computer art even as I taught it.
06.09.2025 18:39 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Sadly not surprised there are octogenarians, in their 20s and 30s during the 1968 Democratic National Convention, who didnβt reach the same conclusion as the Walker report. I can only wonder if the same cognitive dissonance is happening to people living through this now.

30.08.2025 02:25 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yes! It was so good to read this with others and hear their thoughts on it as we were going along. It would have been hard to finish the book on my own!
29.08.2025 21:49 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Acorn. Final thoughts? B is limited in his vision of the future by his memory of the way things were in the past. L. sees the future as something molded by actions in the present. Sheβs right. I donβt know if itβs enough, but remaining open and responsive to the present is to survive. π°

29.08.2025 00:15 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I hate planes and love road trips. I might try to plot the journey on the app once I finish the novel, since most of the roads are real, as are many of the locations.

27.08.2025 16:47 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0That was a hard year. Still haunts me. But I designed a course on psychological first aid for disaster victims with one of the top experts in the country. I hope it helped someone.
Psst. I also knew our pandemic plan. It wasnβt followed. I mean, maybe it changed? Butβ¦
One bonus of being an instructional designer is the things you learn through your subject matter experts.
Katrina happened the following year. I learned who is most vulnerable and how any help is filtered through much human error and politics of the time. A few good changes were made for shelters.
For shelter in place, not an option in this novel, 1-3 months of non-perishable food. Water. First aid kit. A light source. A radio. Blankets. Medicine. Sanitary items. Games, toys. In many cases, like certain toxic spills, itβs best to shelter in place in a sealed room. Duct tape is needed then.
