The original idea was to create a book display for an edition of Poe's tales that I own. Over time, it occurred to me that in the highly unlikely event I'd sell the sculpture, the book would probably go with it. That's a nonstarter.

Despite not being an illustrator any longer, I find these kinds of things very helpful for sculpting as well. I still look lots at drawing, inking, and painting, even video and photos, to make sure I'm doing well.

I keep getting radically different ideas for my Poe sculpture/diorama. Up to and including an attempt to break the big quote wall/floor in half. It's Apoxie Sculpt though, so I have my doubts I can physically make that happen cleanly. Also, sometimes a sound idea looks stupid at first so

I gathered together the three sculptures that have been in progress for at least the last year. I love the journey, but it fails when all the internal voices have strong doubt.

What really happened between Franklin, Watson and Crick in the discovery of the DNA double helix? β€” Genetics Unzipped Kat Arney chats with Professor Matthew Cobb about what really happened between James Watson, Francis Crick and Rosalind Franklin during the discovery of the double helix structure of DNA.

A plate from Anatomie générale des visceΜ€res by Jacques-Fabien Gautier D’Agoty (1752). It is an early example of colour printing, using engraved metal plates to make four separate impressions in black, red, yellow, and blue inks to produce the final image

Wondering why no one likes your posts anymore, even among your friends? It's because @jay.bsky.team and team have decided to hide a huge amount of content from all of our feeds by default.

Here's how to turn it off.

First go to the hamburger menu in the upper left corner

I've used my Moleskine for years to blow off steam, first when I was an illustrator and now as a writer. I've tried here and there to do the same idea with clay sketching, but I haven't made it stick yet.

I learned back when I was an illustrator, and have since carried it into writing, that I treat my Moleskine as the open sprint with little editing. Just get it out of my head, no matter what it is, and come back later if it speaks to me.

Going through and editing some of these short ideas, I've found quite a few worth expanding on. It's also interesting to follow the gaps in entry dates, and how that corresponds with the darker times of the last few months.
