I read that article.. and tbh I felt that article was a bit fear-mongering. I felt the claim that the career disappearing, as baseless.

Note: I am also doing career this time.. I was/am super worried. It may be true, but I don't think there is sufficient evidence for that.

I wanted to just lie on the couch and relax this Saturday morning without doing anything, but ended up being quite philosophical. Spent the whole morning on this and updated my lab page (sinrg.org) 😆

As usual, somewhat relevant.

Personally, I think these problems exist in the first place because of the respected leaders like this who abandon the established communities and try to form new institutions with their close friends and colleagues.

There are tons of conferences exist in computer networking.. SIGCOMM, NSDI, INFOCOM, IMC, CONEXT, HotNets, ICNP.. etc.. if you think creating another conference is going to solve your problem.. think again..

I think creating new conferences just spreads energy thin, splits communities, and ultimately creates new silos rather than solving the core problem.

While I don't really care much about the computer networking community anymore, I still work on some related topics and thought of commenting on this.

A privileged voice (UC Berkeley professor) and a well-respected leader in computer networking, just casually trying to form a new conference... this is just ridiculous.

I would rather go with his earlier suggestions on improving the reviewing process of existing conferences.
