For the life of them, students (mine anyway) cannot manage their time. I give them 3 weeks to do an assignment, coz u know, it can take that long, and they all get started on it 2 days before the deadline. Will break it up into 3 submissions next time!!!

Uses and Abuses of AI Agents in Educationย โ OneHE
I'm not recommending agentic AI browsers, but I think educators need to understand what they are and how they can affect learning in digital spaces.
In this free webinar for OneHE, I'll explore possible student and teacher uses and abuses of these systems. onehe.org/event/uses-a... #EduSky

Seven Myths about AI and Productivity: What the Evidence Really Says
Meta-analytic evidence finds no robust relationship between AI adoption and aggregate productivity gain.
"when decision-support systems are highly but not perfectly reliable, users become over-trusting, leading to a 12 percent increase in commission errors (e.g., accepting incorrect AI suggestions) and slower detection of rare anomalies." cmr.berkeley.edu/2025/10/seve...

I find it interesting (but not frustrating or upsetting) that my non-peer-reviewed writing (on blogs or similar) get cited more often than my peer-reviewed articles. The issue is of course that academia counts/rewards the citations of the peer-reviewed ones only. Not the usefuleness of all of it.

2/2 it's also like... analogous to training the AI in your voice and video and worrying about what it might do with it and distort it into something else given all it's been trained on before? I have some thought experiments on this!

Yes... and also, there is a risk people on the margins have of whether training larger models on their data risks them losing rhetorical and data sovereignty (particularly important for Indigenous groups, but also, e.g., for me, sacred holy texts?). 1/2

I HATE when people compare AI to the printing press, it's so disingenuous. The printing press was opposed by the elites because it put power in the hands of everyday people, and popularized a vernacular. AI does the opposite, by allowing elites to bypass artists and laborers.

Not to constantly refer to one of my own translations, but Saitล's use of Andrรฉ Gorz's distinction between open and locking technologies is very pertinent here -- generative AI is locking tech masquerading as open tech

What If College Teaching Was Redesigned With AI In Mind? | Learning Curve

Ep 2 of Learning Curve just dropped! This one looks at a new model for teaching with AI proposed by Paul LeBlanc, former president of SNHU, plus some reaction from longtime teaching expert Maha Bali. Can AI bots be part of teaching w/o cutting off human connection?
