But sone of them, behind the scenes MUST be saying "oh fuck what have we done here, this is serious"

This suggests there possibly is a bit

Trump is literally playing politics in this way... feeding them all of this... its all about the next big plot twist or jawdropping cliffhanger in the TV show Trump,

People have always been into cultural drama, and they got their fix on the only medium that eyeballs used to use... TV.

But social media has those eyeballs now and it's turned them to politics, and people more & more look to politics as a replacement for the cultural drama they used to watch on TV
