@soumayakeynes.ft.com and I are getting the Trade Talks team back together - not to podcast, but to write a book explaining
HOW TO WIN A TRADE WAR
Look for it at your local bookstore in April 2026, or pre-order it here or wherever you get yours

02.07.2025 16:11 β π 47 π 5 π¬ 0 π 0The context is that many are concerned (correctly!) that AI makes stuff up, or hallucinates.
My point was that academics are also capable of this.
(And having read quite a few reviews recently, this isn't the only example I've found, just the one that tipped me over the edge.)
The screenshot on the left is a description of a result (trade exposure doesn't really explain the Brexit vote).
The other two screenshots are a different academic review paper, describing the result in the first screenshot (trade is a "robust correlate" of the Brexit vote).
It is one of the worst I have ever seen

Me on a podcast with @soumayakeynes.ft.com discussing interactions with China in Biden and Trump admins. There are many real issues to tackle. Trump leading with bluster and focusing (wrongly) on the bilateral trade deficit is counter productive.

After a few months off, I am back on #TheEconomicsShow! What better way to restart than to chat to Swati Dhingra, MPC member and trade economist.
We chatted about lots of things, including why she hasn't been voting for *even* larger rate cuts
