Wonderful to see HMCS Corner Brook (SSK 878) back home today from Operation LATITUDE. The two-month mission had the submarine operate in the Alaskan Theatre of Operations which includes the Northern Pacific and Western Arctic.

I totally hear you. Most of the dive tender boats for the Navy are ancient and need replacing. One thing at a time though... this is a good start.
Plus, there is another aspect to this. The Navy needs crews for the AOPS, so decommissioning the MCDVs frees up personnel.
30+ years is pretty darn good for any ship, but it's low when compared to how long Canada typically keeps ships in operation. The MCDV's have been harder to support as they age, so divesting them and focusing on the new Canadian Continental Defence Corvette project is a good idea in my opinion.

HMCS Vancouver is seen on 2 July 2025 in North Vancouver. The ship was awarded Battle Honours for Operation MOBILE which took place in and around Libya in 2011.
I was honoured to attend todays ceremony for Battle Honours awarded to HMCS Vancouver for its participation in Operation MOBILE in 2011.
This represents one of the highest distinctions awarded to a combat unit, recognizing courageous and dedicated service in active operations against an armed enemy

The sub recently took part in Exercise Trident Fury 2025, and is currently in Vancouver for Fleet Week 2025 (although not open for tours).

Saddened to hear of the passing of Marc Garneau, a former Royal Canadian Navy combat systems engineer, Canadian Space Agency astronaut, and Member of Canada's Parliament.
He was the first Canadian to go into space, flying on three separate Space Shuttle missions.
