Is it possible for the elections in May to go badly enough for someone in the PLP to mount a leadership challenge? They certainly seem to be trying to invite one.

So I’m sympathetic to the position that whilst it’s not a conspiracy, it is a massive data security risk. Data loss and leaks happen all the time. I’d have rather seen it more normalised (or possibly even legally mandated) for devices used by kids to MASSIVELY LOCKED DOWN.

I’d argue that either charities get discounts for all vehicles or none. This is for the congestion charge, and electric cars and vans create just as much of it as conventionally-powered ones. It’s not an emissions levy.

Well, I think the cops in this case should’ve treated this dude exactly like they treated you and taken him on his word that he was lawfully carrying a bladed article in public with good reason.

I don’t think he should should have been arrested and certainly shouldn’t have accepted a caution - but let’s call a spade a spade here, it’s not unreasonable to describe the tool he was carrying as a dagger

But yeah to be honest everyone would benefit from a bit clearer advice on what “good reason” is and isn’t. As it stands if you obviously need a blade for work that’s fine, but for other cases it’s genuinely hard for us and clearly also for the cops to tell where the line is.

The cops clearly want it to be completely illegal to ever have a sharp edge in public - but policy makers/lawyers/real life realises that’s impossible. But you get this stupid situation where they’re super illegal unless you have good reason where it’s fine but “good reason” is left so vague.

Thing is the law doesn’t care about “how it looks” if you get randomly stopped and searched and you’ve got those tools in your bag, you’re in the exact same situation as this guy.

Yeah he needed the guidance, not a caution - he didn’t commit any crimes.

The cops should have informally asked him “do us and yourself a favour and carry them in a bag cos you might spook someone”
