The whole thing would have been fudged. It would have been in zero parties interest to have a potentially qualifying member state hanging off the side because the former UK state took the hump at Scotland voting for Indy. I think the pressure to see Scotland into the EU would have been immense.

Hard agree, this and astroturfing anything other than a five-a-side pitch should be outlawed.

I find that hard to marry up with a campaign in 2014 that presented the EU as something that would drop an Indy Scotland like a hot potato if it voted a certain way.

Not about my happiness, if you don’t think attitudes on the continent in regards to Scottish Indy have firmly shifted after Brexit then your head is firmly planted in the sand. And I write that as partner of a Spaniard who emphatically voted No 6 months into our courtship in ‘14.

Annoyingly for Unionists, Scotland voting to remain in the EU, showed the EU that the idea of Scottish Indy was not the threat they thought it was. Shame that.
