This is the real world cost to the sport and its fans.

Many people will just say “just pay the money” but the fact is. I simply don’t have the money spare to spend on what would be a luxury purely for myself in our family budget. It would stop a kid from doing a club they would love and enjoy. Or mean a day out less a month with them.

I’ve watched and loved this sport for nearly 2 decades and one season where I’ve been priced out of coverage and this is the result. How on earth is the sport supposed to attract new fans. When the current situation is turning off old ones.

This year I watched Paris Roubaix on my phone via my parents Virgin Media login and the Tour coverage on ITV4. So disconnected from the world of cycling due to lack of affordable coverage of a sport I love have I become that I didn’t even watch the world championships.

Thought I’d share a bit of the real world fall out from the changes made to how we have access to cycling coverage in the UK have affected me this year.
