We had to have both of @sophia-adamowicz.bsky.social submissions!

In Wixton Fen, we loved the contrast of modern eco-ignorance and ancient vengeful desire - the two voices perfect. The pace builds to the chilling conclusion wonderfully.

Fair Game was started in a TCL writealong - from a blind-chosen set of prompts - and we loved where @sophia-adamowicz.bsky.social took those. The voice is superb and the quiet, building dread is divine.

13.07.2025 21:57 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A moodboard with a cave in the background, eight pictures and a title in the middle: The Brink, a folk horror. Beginning in the twelve o' clock position, the pictures show a bawdy interaction at a seventeenth-century inn, a woodcut of a devil offering a cup to a figure in bed, an underground cavern, a man screaming, a cave system, the entrance to a deep pothole, a rotting sheep and a hillside in the Peak District.

Derbyshire, 1642. A young woman, tasked with securing human sacrifices for a guzzling mouth of hell, falls in love with the ideal victimβputting her family and the entire village at risk.

My two pence on the Salt Path scandal: the passages on the natural world were often beautiful, but I was disturbed by the anti-medical bias running through the narrative. As someone who's struggled with depression and anxiety, I've heard plenty of bullshit on the miraculous healing powers of nature.

04.07.2025 07:38 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Delighted to have not one, but two pieces in this summer's volume of @trashcatlit.bsky.social! 'Wixton Fen' is inspired by a very real place nearby, where I ran with some buddies last summer. It was vast, beautiful and lonely...

Now Iβm not allowed to say which of these titles is mine (if you know, you know), but Iβve been shortlisted for the I Am Writing horror comp!

An excellent and really interesting talk on the history and legends of the hole including, but not limited to, murderers chucking their victims in (or not), aristocrats dangling peasants in, and some beautiful illustrations from cave explorers

Delve into an infernal pit with me! Derbyshire's deepest natural pothole, Eldon Hole, has a fascinating history and lore. Writers including Thomas Hobbes and Daniel Defoe stared into its fathomless depths, while locals told tales of murder and madness. www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMPe...
